Congratulations to Daniel C. Dennett

Dennett has won the Erasmus Prize 2012. Here’s a list of past winners — it’s quite an honor, and well deserved.

Sometimes I feel completely irrational. This makes me feel like a proud Amsterdammer.

Very well deserved. An artist right up there with Messiaen, Chagall … and “the Austrian people”? I’m not sure what that’s about.

Lots of his articles, going as far back as 1983, can be found here.

Congratulations to Daniel Dennett! I was recently asked if I was him (by a young Icelandic man), while waiting to get a ticket at Brussels Midi – we do look similar (though I’m a bit younger and a bit slimmer). The thought of pretending I was, only crossed my mind afterwards – I reckon I might have carried it off, having read most of his books. I don’t suppose the prize money is given in cash ;-)

If I’m not mistaken, you were dismissing the whole of philosophy as no better than theology just a few days ago.

Congrats to Dan Dennett. His explanation of consciousness drove the last nail into the coffin of spiritualism, at least for me.

    from the erasmus site:

Dennett has published numerous articles and books, most noted are Breaking the Spell (2007, a personal search for the meaning of religion)

a personal search for the meaning or religion??? since when!

dudes are obviously trying to gloss over dennett’s outspoken atheism
