I’ve been told to remind you to sign up for CSICon: The conference dedicated to science and reason — it’s coming up on 27-30 October, so it’s time to commit. It has an amazing list of speakers — so amazing, that even though I’m one of them, they left me off as the least interesting person speaking there. That just tells you how good it is, or perhaps what good taste the organizers have.

Also, who cares who the speakers are? It’s in New Orleans. I’m going for the food and the music and the chance to sashay through the French Quarter late at night with a beautiful woman on my arm, as God intended me to do. As my humanity and my manhood demand that I do.

I’m skeptical about the existence of this “New Orleans” and “Louisiana” in which it is said to reside. Supposedly inhabited by intelligent beings, yet legislating to teach religious objections to reasonable scientific inference.

Is this a party set out to see if it exists, and if it’s as stupid as it is fabled to be, should it truly exist?

On the other hand, is there reason to be skeptical that crawdads evolved to be served in butter?

    OT, but this is unconscionable.

Before reading Pharyngula, I would give a passing nod to feminist concerns, but I didn’t seriously believe there was such a thing as a “rape culture” that still existed. Surely we were past the point of blaming the victim — that had been identified as an issue in the late 80′s!

Apparently, in some school districts we not only blame the victim, we also make her write an apology letter to her attacker and then expel her, only to let her back in for it to happen again.

I’m still not convinced of everything feminists say, but since being cued in on it on this blog articles like the one above have been more obvious to me and more prevalent than I’d realized.

*gasp* This should be sorted out soon.

    Looking forward to seeing you!

By Odin, I’d pay five bucks to watch PZ sashay up a street in the French Quarter!

When I saw the conference title, I thought they might be discussing how to calculate Complex Specified Informaiton!

    We can dream, I suppose.

I wonder how many walk ins they’ll get who will be profoundly disappointed when they realise this has nothing to do with Gil Grissom and Horatio Cain.

OK, who yelled “Show us your tits!” at P.Z.? I heard you. You should be ashamed.

That’s one hell of a line-up. I’m gonna make it to one of these atheist/skeptic shindigs one of these days, dammit!

Good time to be in NOLA. If anyone needs music venue suggestions, let me know.

    Love that town.

50 speakers (51 counting PZ), 12 of whom are women.
    Also, can’t afford it.
Darn, I was really looking forward to the sashaying!

I just got incredibly excited. Something mentally stimulating coming to my city?! To whom must I pray to be able to cover this? People will want pictures of Bourbon St. skeptics.

Sadly I haven’t got enough vacation time this year to go to all the conferences. Three’s enough. Next year five maybe.

I’m glad Mary gets to travel with you.

As we say in New Orleans, “yeah, you right!”

Can’t wait til the conference – and, being lucky enough to live in New Orleans, I’ll definitely continue to enjoy all of its wonderful aspects. Glen, crawfish are served every way imaginable, all of them delicious: boiled, fried, cardinale, etouffee, creole As for me, I’m addicted to the oysters and the music. Hope you have fun if you come to town and forget about who’s stupid and who’s not. Idiocy in State government doesn’t seem to be limited to only southern States these days. Check out Congress lately, if you can stomach it.
