Can we not associate this kind of asshole behavior with mental disability by calling it “dumb”?
It has nothing to do with being “dumb,” and everything to do with pervasive racism and pervasive acceptance of and even approval of hostile and hateful behavior in USA society. He knew full well what he was doing, and he knew that there are plenty of people who will cheer him on and vote for him for doing it. Being an asshole has clearly worked for him this long, why should he change?
(The same is true of “The Donald”, btw.)
Calling this guy “dumb” is an ablist slur, not to mention ignoring the real problem — a society which largely condones and rewards this kind of behavior.
