Back to the World

One disadvantage of taking long train trips is that I tend to get disconnected from the news outside the FtB bubble; and I’m still about a week behind in my Pharyngula reading.

I knew from a rail-related e-mail list about the NS derailment and fire in Ohio and the fact that pets, livestock and wildlife seem to be dying from the toxic chemicals; but I turned on the TV this morning and found out about yet another school shooting and known Trumpista, Nikki Haley, running for president.  I haven’t been able to process it all yet.

I am appalled the Ohio “experts” are insisted that even though plants, animals, and fish are dying from poison, there’s absolutely no risk to people.

Sorry–that should be “are insisting”. Used phone; missed typo.

Additionally, President Biden offered Ohio anything they needed but R Gov DeWine insists the derailment was not all harmful to humans. The willful stupidity is breathtaking.

Your thoughts on the latest train derailment near Detroit? Seems like trains are derailing about as often as Russians are falling out of windows. In your opinion, is it lack of attention to infrastructure? Overworked train engineers? Something else?

WKBN reported, at 9 AM another Norfolk Southern train derailed in Van Buren Township, Michigan. The derailment was west of Detroit Airport. Authorities are reporting no injuries and no hazardous materials. The train left the tracks and train wheels damaged. There are several road closures and motorists should find alternate routes.
