Looking forward to going under the knife

I have arthroscopic surgery scheduled for the 26th of September. Hooray! I first went to this doctor in July, and he had hopes that I’d heal up with time — I guess that I was hobbling in on a cane and grimacing with every step told him that he’s going to have to poke holes in me and stitch something up.

Then he thinks I’ll need about two weeks of recovery time, unless they discover something horrible. I’ll try to be optimistic, but optimism isn’t working out so far.

When we got home from the clinic, there was another chrysalis just outside my door. Maybe that’s a promising sign?

I had knee surgery in my late teens and it worked for me. Aggressive PT before and after. Thankfully my mom had good insurance!

I was quite immobilized by my injury. Badly swollen. Excruciating pain upon just raising or lowering my knee on the couch.

The orthopedist jabbed a needle into my knee joint to drain fluid. He said if it was clear an operation might not be needed. If it was blood red surgery would be needed. It was red.

Hoping for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. Tots and pears…you’ll need the energy.

Now that’s less than fun. I wish you a favorable diagnosis and a speedy recovery, cause knees and similar knobs are kind of important.
After recovery, try to exercise and build up as much strength as you can – according to an osteopath I knew, knee problem can also be caused by insufficient leg musculature.
Lastly, is that chrysalis thingy a rather fetching turquoise color? Does the arthropod realm honor you thusly?

PZ, It took me considerably more time than two weeks to recover from a meniscus repair.
At six weeks post surgery, when I begged the PA for a referral to PT, he told me to “Get my butt out of bed earlier before work and get to a gym.” When I told him that I would have no idea what exercises to do in a gym, his reply was “That’s what trainers are for”.
He added that I was no longer a patient there.
As someone else mentioned, you need to demand aggressive PT.

PZ, being in his late 60s and having lived a sedentary life, is not gonna make the sort of progress younger or fitter people will. I know the exercise and buttressing advice is well-intended, of course.

Luckily, PZ being a biologist and all can maybe switch from theory to experiment, physically speaking, and will know the good advice and practices from the spurious.

Good luck with the surgery. I also noticed the turquoise chrysalis. Other photos you posted are a pale green. Is it just the light or camera settings or are there colour variants?

Monarch chrysali are a jade green color with a row of black and gold at the seam. I think the lighting and orange tone of the siding is causing the blue metameric effect.
