    Reminds me of Fargo. The character played by Peter Stormare has just been caught by the sheriff who points out the absurdity of his career path that brought him to this situation, while the surrounding world is beautiful and tranquil.

    PZ you are entitled to all the non-addictive ways of chilling out there is.
    And some of the mildly addictive ones.
    (As MDMA is the opposite of “chilling” I cannot recommend it.)
    There is a Brit that is working on clinical testing of Alcorelle, a substance that gives the positive buzz of alcohol without locking to the bad chemical receptors – it may be cleared for use in 2027 or 2028 but by then I hope you are a happy senior citizen.

    Interesting you immediately jump to a dystopia setting, even though there’s a readily available utopian counterpart (Star Trek, which has “synthehol”).
