This morning was my yearly checkup, and I’m afraid everything was normal. Cholesterol was down, blood pressure 120/70, not a hint of prostate cancer, probably going to live for a little while longer.
There was some funny business with my thyroid, so I have to go in next week for an ultrasound. Also I get to get another colonoscopy in the summer of 2024.
I’m home briefly, but I have to go teach a new class. Oh boy. And then I’m coming home again to cook for a potluck this evening.
I’m way younger than you and need cataract surgery for one eye already. Grrrr!
And the IOL options already make my head hurt just thinking about the downsides of each choice. One clear focus versus halos with multifocus. Fun times.
You and Joe Biden.
Great news!
I remember potlucks. I was young and I remember eating more than I probably should have. It was always delicious.
I left the socializing to others, introvert that I am.
I am now longing for some sort of hearty casserole.
May your thyroid be boring and your potluck fun.
I have to have regular colonoscopies because of a family history of colon cancer. They plumb me up for the sedatives and pain killers but I never needed them. I stay conscious through the whole thing and watch the procedure along with the nurse and physician doing the procedure in the tv monitor. It’s fascinating seeing inside myself like that. It is only marginally uncomfortable. Sinus pain from a mild cold is much worse.
Hope yours goes well. We could all do with less colon cancer in this world.
Sure hope so! Very glad to read this. Not sure if “congrats” is the quite the right word here but congrats anyhow from me.
In the image, you look like a character from South Park, which is alarming in itself.
Bringing in the vegetarian food to a potluck.
@hemidactylus you too? I keep getting the “for someone so young” at every appointment once I learned I have Cataracts. Got my first surgery in 2 weeks…
@ ^ killyosaur : Would you rather hear “for someone so old”?
@1 & 10: Cataract surgery havers unite! Mine’s coming up in a month or so.
Good to see I’m not the only one.
We are so glad that your health is fine. We value you as a force for good in a world of rampant greed, malice and stupidity.
I’m happy you’re still around, PZ.
@StevoR no, but A) I’m in my 40’s so not feeling so young and B) doubt I’d get that reaction (so old) if this was happening to me at 60+ :P
@UnknownEric the Apostate we could start a support group or something :D
I still have a clear eye, so I might go multifocal and then if the other eye needs to be done eventually go with a monofocal in that. The potential halos thing with a multifocal IOL is concerning, but allegedly people can neuroadapt.
Using a distance and reading monofocal in the different eyes is allegedly supposed to result in neuroadapted “monovision”. Still uncertain in what to do.
The multifocal halos can’t be as bad as my bad eye is already.
I read a lot AND drive at night, but not at the same time.
