It’s Christmas Eve morning!

You know what that means? I’m going to go take a long walk in the frigid cold, stop off at the gym, walk back to my lab, spend some time taking care of animals, water the plants in the greenhouse, and come home to an otherwise empty house occupied by an evil cat princess.

Bah, humbug already.

Guess what I’m going to do Christmas morning! The same thing!

Oh, also, I got the official notification that I’m denied a sabbatical next year. Bah! Humbug!

I’m back! Animals watered, plants fed…hope I got all the instructions down correctly. Now I have to buckle down and get a couple of hours of textbook reading done.

It was the notoriety from being on The Professor’s Watch List, wasn’t it?

It’s because the 2 faculty on sabbatical now are having it extended to a second year (I didn’t know you could do that) & having 3 senior faculty absent at once is too much.

PZ, you might want to blog about this, it seems like your kind of thing: well-known extreme Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is threatening to hold science funding hostage over the immigrant-sanctuary issue.

    Dec 15, 2016
    Press Release

WASHINGTON – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher today warned University of California president Janet Napolitano that continuing to accommodate illegal immigrants in the state university system could lead to a cut in federal research funds.

“It may be prudent for you to consider that approximately 50% of the University of California’s research funding is supported by federal taxpayers’ dollars before pledging non-compliance with federal law,” he said.

Just wait until you do get your sabbatical.
    You’ll show them.

Guess what I’m doing tomorrow morning?
    Going to work, as usual.

But, my management has complained to me that I’ve entirely failed to take all (initially, any) of my paid holiday time off. That’s resulted in me having 2.5 days of paid holiday time accrued, which is use or lose, for the remainder of the year.
So, I’ll take half of Monday off, then Tuesday and Wednesday off. As Tuesday is our 35h anniversary, my wife is quite happy to have me for the entire day.
Maybe I’ll wear a bow for her.

Nah, she never did get into joke gifts.

Sorry about your sabbatical, but otherwise that sounds like a very pleasant day. Today is socially unavoidable holiday time, and I’ve been preparing myself with videos of adorable creatures for the last few hours. This one is my favorite so far. A Peacock Spider Christmas Merry Ratmas and Gut Yul to everyone!

Sounds like a nice weekend, PZ. I’m having a boatload of food and sharing it with people I love. To me that captures the meaning of Christmas, Happy Holidays to you and your readers.

It’s almost midnight here, so Bah – Humbug Xmas day! I can’t sleep – too much back pain, so here I sit with a couple of my cats.
Sorry about the sabbatical. PZ. You should be first in line the following year. What will you do with it? Will you go off to check out zebra fish research in other countries? It seems that it would be great to go do some research outside of trumplandia,
We’ll be doing the obligatory family gatherings in the morning – first at the home of one daughter for brunch and then at the home of another one for dinner. It will be fun to see the grandchildren with their shiny new presents.
My husband and I will both be looking forward to getting home to split a bottle of wine while we watch the Dr. Who xmas special and The Librarians xmas special. We both enjoy peace and quiet now that we’re older, so your weekend sounds pleasant.
