    Are you kidding? Monterey, in April. There is no more lovely place except the upper peninsula of Michigan in June.
    Anyway, is it just me or does our tentacled friend look, uh, yawn, bored?

    mjmiller,
    Monterey, any time of the year!
    The mere mention of the Monterey area makes me homesick, since I’m now living in Texas.
    We lived there for the most wonderful 3 years, 8 months. As a military family, we’ve live in many places, but the Monterey Bay area was the one place that felt the most like home to me.
    We want to retire there in a few years. That time can’t come soon enough for me.

    I plan to visit that place every time I’m at a conference in California and events never fail to conspire against me and prevent it. Frustrating.

    I’m still annoyed that our local aquarium only has cuttlefish that are literally too small to make out from their tank’s substrate.. I was so looking forward to seeing them for the first time! And somehow I missed the Pacific Octopus too due to time.. I’ll have to go back one day.

    Hmmmm, my GF and I have been talking about heading down there soon. Maybe this weekend! We just missed the free admission weekend a couple of weeks ago (for us local residents), but I do’t mind giving them my money. I love that place!

    @magistramarla

    Hope you get back here sooner rather than later!

    Ahh I see the exhibit doesn’t open until 4/12. That’s OK, I’ll still go this weekend and come back in a couple of months.

    Hmmm, April is around pupping season for Otters as well. Anyone who ends up in the area for this, I would highly recommend the drive north to Moss Landing/Elkhorn Slough to catch the California Sea Otter pupping ground. It’s quite a site.

    An excuse to visit? How about the Big Sur Marathon on April 27?

    Actually, that’s a good weekend to avoid. Obtaining lodging would be just about impossible.
