Lynn Wilhelm – Ahhhhh…. Captain Kangaroo!
He needs magic keys…

Gotta say I’m surprised that Mr Deity is getting a free pass here. Check out his comments on his previous video on youtube. The video was pretty inoffensive but the comments… well you can all see them for yourselves.
Could Mr. Deity perform a miracle and add numbers to the comments?
Holy shit! Looks like he just did!

the people who are going to be out of work if people only believe things for which there is serious evidence: astrologers, philosophers… .
Don’t like the new layout in the browser: pharyngula is text, not pretty pictures. The page composition should reflect this – a wider column, less space between comments, more-or-less like the old version.
Gnumannsays
No way I’m reading 500+ youtube comments – could you give some hightlights?
From what little I skimmed I gathered that he’s in the “women should not be afraid”-crowd. Which is not so bad in theory, but shows a rather large detachment from the world contemporary women are living in. AFAIK mr. Deity doesn’t hang here though, so to try and re-educate him here wouldn’t do a lot of good – looks like you got a job to do on youtube.
Full disclosure: First time using the blockquote cite-tag and preview seems broken: I might make a mess of this one…
Gnumannsays
Aye! Messed up royally I did – I was planning on quoting Jack.

Ah, I thought the “uploader comments” section showed all his comments. It only shows one though, when for other videos it shows more.
Though I think Mr Deity is going to find he has a new rival if his show doesn’t give The Believing Brain the same bump in sales as the appearance on Colbert did.

amusing episode, but I agree with PZ on the hair and clothes.
NMcCsays
What’s wrong with his hair? It’s exactly the same as Jerry Coyne’s.
Bernard Bumnersays
Wonder why Dr. Myers didn’t post the previous Mr. Deity.
The one wherein Mr. Deity was so concerned about what he perceived to be an overreaction to a dispute on the internet that he decided to devote an entire episode of his web-based serial to taking a side in it?
Maybe it is good, at this point, to shift focus away from the thing which has been debated ad nauseum and with not insignificant venom and toxic effect?
andyosays
He explains the look in the first comment there.

You actually seriously expect Pharyngulites to waste time reading YouTube comments?
There’s a point where speech isn’t notable enough to a community to invite comment within it. Dawkins pissed directly in our pool. Mr. Deity has his own pool, and a pretty good show promoting some worthwhile ideas when he’s not busy being clueless.

excellent! this needs to go to the Big Screen.

Sorry, I sometimes have a morbid curiosity in Youtube comments – that’s where you can find the silliest of human interactions.

Yeah, that’s it in a nutshell. You don’t really have to skim anymore. I just thought the comparison to Rosa Parks was particularly silly. Anyways, this is the link. Pretty much everything worth reading is on the first page but I’d see why other people wouldn’t bother even with that. It is Youtube comments after all…

Yeah Dr. Shermer, “crazy ideas.” Like the insane moral and economic justifications I keep hearing for capitalism and libertarianism. Those are pretty loony.

OT: Liberty University is coming up as an advert. I’d suggest that everyone click the ad so PZ+Ed get the revenue at Liberty’s expense.

There really needs to be a law for this phenomenon, akin to Godwin’s Law. It’s interesting that no matter what Shermer does or talks about, there’s always someone bound to make it about Shermer’s political ideals. It’s funny, for a movement that’s meant to be about critical thinking, that there’s so much made of the individuals in it. Got cult of personality?

why Mr. Deity looks so goofy? is he a underage school boy or something…. Philosophy somehow got to the baloney part like faith I’m not sure I like it.

And isn’t Shermer one of those?

Is that guy trying to impersonate Woody Allen or something?
@Eric: I think you owe us a definition of Marxism.
