Crazy Like Fox

The in-house Fox psychiatrist
Has seen his share of crazy
Surrounded by his talking points
His frontal lobe’s gone lazy
He claims he has compassion for
“Transsexual” Chaz Bono
But watching “Dancing with the Stars”
While Chaz is on? A no-no!
If children see Chaz dancing, why,
That glorifies her change!
And children might see sex as something
They can re-arrange!
The siren song of surgery
Must surely be entrancing
If children want to nip and tuck
From merely watching dancing

I guess when Fox was looking for
A television shrink
Ability to bullshit trumped
Ability to think
If children are in danger when
They watch the idiot-box
There’s far, far greater damage if
They watch the news on Fox.

More, after the jump:

Wow. If you like thumping your forehead with blunt objects, read this opinion piece by Fox News’s contributing psychiatrist, Dr. Keith Ablow. The man can’t write, but it’s clear that’s merely a symptom of his inability to think. He is in a minority position here–well, he is in a minority position within psychology and psychiatry, but he is completely in step with Fox’s “matters of sex and gender are a choice” narrative.

Ablow starts off badly and insultingly:

Chaz Bono, the “transsexual” woman who underwent plastic surgery and takes male hormones in an effort to appear to be a man, and who asserts she is a man, will appear on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars”, according to ABC, the network which airs the show. He will be partnered with a woman.

The confusion of pronouns continues throughout the piece–and the scare quotes around “transsexual” serve notice in the very first sentence, that this article is written by someone who has no business addressing such matters.

Make no mistake: I would have gone to the ends of the earth to help Chaz Bono if she had come to me for help.
I would have treated her with dignity and summoned every ounce of my intellect and empathy to explore her psyche with her. I would have pried loose every family secret hidden by the Bonos.
I would have been relentless.

Translation: He would not stop until she conformed to his world view. Make no mistake: the man is a quack.

So, here it is. One psychiatrist’s prescription, sure to cost me a lot of hate mail, but reward me with the certainty that I am stating what I believe to be true and that I am doing my job: If you care about your kids, don’t let them watch “Dancing with the Stars” starring Chaz Bono.

I would wager that a great deal of that hate mail will come from qualified psychiatrists and psychologists, as well as informed individuals of all stripes. I would also wager that none of it will put a dent in his “certainty”. As for his certainty that he is doing his job, I agree with him completely.

His job is to be a hack for Fox.

First, any “professional” who puts things like gay and transsexual (or any other myriad ‘outside-the-norm’ group descriptors) in quotes should have their title/honorific put in quotes as well.

Second, “psychiatrist”/”Dr.” Keith Ablow clearly is in need of some professional help.
