Botanical Wednesday: Spring is coming!

At least, that’s what I keep telling myself as yet another snowstorm bears down on us.

Just some happy grass cells under the microscope. - Imgur

“Spring”? What is this “Spring” of which you write?

Now imagine all those happy mouths singing “It’s a small world”.

I have seen in bloom: periwinkle, trout lily, bloodroot, Carolina spring beauty, and striped squill.

FINE. I have only seen a single one of each.

    And only just this week.

    But it’s happening!

It must be spring – it got into the 40s today.

    Spring has come
    Spring is here,
The bird is on the wing.
    My how absurd,
    I thought the wing
    Was on the bird!

There appear to be yellow and blue smiley faces in that… whatever it is.

That looks like a collection of very happy penii.

It’s already too hot down in Texas.
Don’t we suffer enough from our politicians?

You got one of my favorite Ogden Nash poems wrong!

    *clears throat

    Spring has sprung
    The grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is.
Some people say the bird is on the wing
    But that’s absurd
The wing is on the bird.

    Spring has sprung.
    Fall has fell.
    Winter is here,
    and it’s colder than usual.

    Obligatory obscure cultural reference:
Time to drag out ol’ Tom Lehrer and go poison a few pigeons in the park.

Spring? It’s been 90+ the last two days. But, I’ll take inspiration from the pic and put on a happy face. Sweaty, but happy.

No, my friend… *stares into the middle-distance*

    …Winter is coming.

It’s cherry-blossom season over here. A thunderstorm (from all the room-temperature “heat” of this week) was announced but still hasn’t started.
