Participate in the Atheist Census It’s quick and easy, and then we get to see the stats, too.
Currently, the most godless country in the world seems to be…Brazil. Somebody is doing a good job of promoting it down there, I think.
Get on the list. As a bonus, I think every participant gets the Mark of the Beast and is automatically enrolled in a sweepstakes where the grand prize is an evening with the Whore of Babylon. Also, any Christians who try to skew the poll will be instantly damned to hell by Jesus. Just warning you.

Apparently, 4,484 is “a high volume of entries”. This doesn’t bode well.

I’m sure the Whore of Babylon would have a lot of interesting stories to tell.
(I’m sure whoever entered that as the grand prize considered that not all contestants are men *khm*)

There are times when I feel proud to be Brazilian. This is one of them. It’s good to know that there are so many atheists over here, specially if you consider that this is still one of the most catholic countries in the world. People seem to be waking up.

Good stuff: the numbers keep going up. I’m really surprised that India is currently smoking everyone else, I wonder if it will retain its lead.
Bad stuff: 75.4% of surveyed people are male- which means that atheists aren’t doing enough to attract women, though I guess anyone who hangs out here could have guessed that already.

It’s better or worse depending on where you look (you can filter by country). Canada and the USA have around to 65% male (not great but better) where as Brazil is 83% male. The slanting of the data towards Brazil might also explain why there are so many ex catholics.

“an evening with the Whore of Babylon”.
Any chance of swapping that for an evening with Eccentrica Gallumbits, the Triple Breasted Whore of Eroticon Six?
I too am getting the message reported in #3. Head-count is now over 5 000. Not really a big enough number to draw conclusions about worldwide atheism….

7 December 2012 at 1:25 pm (UTC -5) Link to this comment
I doubt that they are yet. But the conclusion that comes to mind is using it to compare their responses to the percentage of the population that’s identified as atheist in each country to figure out how much of the total group places like Pharyngula are reaching.

#3 – it’s not the number of entries that’s high and causing issues, it’s the rate of submissions – I think primarily thanks to Pharyngula at the moment!

Small point … but why did AAI use the Dawkins’ A in the video, instead of the more general atheist symbol — the one they themselves had a hand in helping select?
(It’s my avatar, if you’re wondering which one I mean; gaining in popularity and more distinctive (and less Dawkins) than the other.)

Brazilians use many social networks, so it is normal that we’re in first place now, due to disclosure.

Seems a bit odd to use the total number of respondents to establish the competition metric for countries.
Using the only two countries whose population figures I know, Canadians as a percentage are responding at more than twice the rate of USAnians

On 7 December Atheist Alliance International launched Atheist Census at http://www.atheistcensus.com, a global project to count and collect information on the world’s atheists. The response to the site was very positive, with well over 8,000 peop
le contributing before it was taken offline as a result of a DoS (denial of service) attack, less than 24 hours after launch. We do not know who is behind the attack, but it’s a reasonable conclusion that they do not like atheists being counted. We are working hard to get Atheist Census online again.

The atheist movement is often said to be unwelcoming to women.
The grand prize is an evening with a prostitute?
See any connections?
Male or female, prostitutes are usually abused and suffering peoples. Joking about it (even mythical prostitutes) isn’t funny.

I guess these kind of references happen because a) many atheists don’t consider prostitution / sex bad per-se and b) Christians (who PZ was parodying with his WoB/Satan language) often portray atheists as sexual perverts and hedonists.
Child murder and cannibalism are also not generally funny things to happen. But I still have a baby sammich for breakfast every morning.

To clarify my point a) – many atheists consider a slut/prostitute positive attituted to be much more constructive than the usual shaming that goes on by the major religions.
