Um, this may be a dumb question, as I know so little about cephalopods… are there any species that can go in a fresh water aquarium? Because this is about the cutest little critter I’ve seen in ages.
@eileencano – I’ve never heard of a fresh water octopus, or squid or cuttlefish, either. However, I have seen home-sized salt water tanks with octopi. And, of course, the big ones at aquariums.

As Gregory said, cephalopods are saltwater critters. And they are, by just about all accounts that I’ve seen, rather difficult to keep in an aquarium. (Actually, that’s just one of the problems raising them, keeping them in the aquarium. They’re renowned escape artists.) Plus, most species are rather short-lived (AFAIK) even with the best care. And that really sucks with a creature with so much personality that you’re sure to become really attached to.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen a cephalopod picture before it was featured here.
I absolutely love the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I’d heartily recommend reading their Midnight Rambler story if you haven’t already.
