Here’s a study in contrasts: Emma Goldman and Sikivu Hutchinson. Both so different and both so good.

The Hutchinson piece reminds me that I have to get around to leaving binding instructions for what to do if I’m incapacitated and after my death…

I’m afraid I found Hutchinson’s style quite alienating. For example
“…a raging prayer circle. Heads bowed, hands joined, voices hushed, three friends and family…”
What’s “raging” about that?. Given their beliefs it’s hard to see how they could have been more discreet.
Goldman’s style is much nicer. A pity she spoils it by accusing Confucius and the Buddha of being gods, which neither ever claimed.

I adore Emma Goldman, and am always amazed at how contemporary she sounds. I’m finding I adore Sikivu Hutchinson more and more, and I’m grateful to FtB for hosting her, lest I be left unaware of such a thoughtful and beautiful voice for atheism and humanity.
@aziraphale – fires rage, often silently, sometimes with hushed fury. That is the sense in which I took it. (YMMV.)

Neither did Jesus.
That doesn’t stop their followers from treating them as if they were.
