The effects of the tariffs that Trump imposed are starting to become manifest, hitting especially hard small retailers who find it harder to switch to other suppliers or absorb the increased costs.
This article has collected some of the complaints of retailers.
Trump does not care.

Also, he exaggerates Chinese trade deficit by a factor of 3.
What’s particularly nice is seeing things like the juxtaposition of two tweets by a prick named “Austin Petersen” -- search him out if you still use Xitter, I saw a screengrab of them on Bluesky.
The first one was from July ’24, and said “I’m voting for Donald Trump for the economy. And to own the libs.”
The second absolutely wonderful one was from May 8th (three days ago), and went like this (make sure you have a tissue handy):
“Well there went my shoe business. I don’t understand why the tariffs have to eliminate the de minimis exemption. Why does government punish small businesses in this country knowing full well that Nike and all the big brands will be fine paying the taxes but Steffi and I get wiped out?”
There are few things these days that raise a smile, but whiny snowflake Trump voters reaching the Finding Out stage gives me a grin every single time.
I assume the tissue is for the ejaculate…?
My thoughts were of
(a) tears of sorrow the prick thinks he deserves and
(b) tears of laughter his tweets actually provoke
But you do you i guess if you’re that excited.
“How it started”… “How it’s going”
and
“I voted for the leopards eating people’s faces party but I never expected…”
memes are funny, but I think the schadenfrude has to be tempered by the reality this will impose huge suffering on people; not only dupes, but everybody.
@2 If this is the Austin Petersen I think it is, don’t worry, he’ll be just fine economically speaking. He’s on “Wingnut Welfare”: He’s a conservative/libertarian “political commentator and broadcaster”. He ran for president and US Senate back in the 20-teens. In one interview I saw, he disdainfully referred to both Hillary Clinton and tRump as “progressives”. I believe the “shoe business” is his wife’s hobby business.
