    In 1066, William the Conquerer was crowned king of England, forever changing the country and the language.

    In 1492, the Santa Maria (one of Columbus’ ships) ran aground and sank on Hispaniola, the island now known as the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

    In 1741, astronomer Anders Celcius introduces Centigrade temperature scale, and in 1989, Japanese scientist produced a temperature of -271.8°C in the laboratory.

    In 1926, Hirohito became the emperor of Japan.

    In 1946 and 1947 respectively, Taiwan’s constitution was accepted and the “Day of Earth Law”, the document guaranteeing human rights and freedoms, came into being.

    Many factual things of importance happened on this day, things far more noteworthy than fictions and practices based on them.
