Glenn Greenwald slaps down David Gregory

NBC’s David Gregory is one of the best examples of establishment journalists who see their main role as being to suck up to politicians in return for receiving minor news items that they trumpet as scoops. They see any challenge to the establishment as an attack on themselves and their friends and react accordingly. Here Greenwald puts him in his place when asked why he should not be considered as aiding and abetting Edward Snowden in a crime.

I’m assuming you’re talking about the bit that begins around 3:44, and I don’t see the problem in Gregory’s question, it is indeed a question that many other people have asked.

    Why shouldn’t Greenwald be charged?

This isn’t Gregory saying Greenwald should be charged, and it gives Greenwald an opportunity to address the question and clarify what his actions have been.

Must Gregory add on the “Respond to your critics” preface that he added on later to another question? If so, why?

The big partisan lib talking point today is “Greenwald smacks down Gregory”, but I hardly find echoing talking points to be the high point of critical thinking.

The latest in this ongoing soap opera is that Snowden will leave for Ecuador tomorrow. Nor surprising since his pal Julian Assange is holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

This is even more interesting then the previous speculation about Cuba as a direct flight from Moscow might fly over more of the US then a direct flight to Cuba. Will the USAF be instructed to force down the plane carrying Snowden? Tune in tomorrow to find out!

By the way, Snowden’s revelation that the US was hacking into Chinese computer systems didn’t certainly was not helpful in persuading the Chinese Government to arrest him.

If you truly believe that investigative journalists who publish material from whistleblowers should be charged, then you are embracing the idea that the public must remain ignorant of the operation of its government. Such a system, with a public that is ignorant of its own government, and a government that surveils its public with impunity, is an authoritarian system not a democratic one. If that is the kind of system you want, then you would seem to be an authoritarian follower type.

Thanks atheist for a demonstration that atheism does not always correlate with reading comprehension.

Well, the soap opera continues as, apparently, Snowden was not on the Aeroflot flight to Cuba, according to dozens of journalists on board. Where is Snowden. The world wonders.

My memory, such as it is, may be playing tricks but I seem to recall that the USAF did once force down a plane (I don’t recall whether it was a commercial flight) to arrest a passenger. This happened a long time ago and I don’t recall the details of what the passenger was wanted for.
