An exciting Friday morning!

I got to go outside! Actually, I had to go outside, since I have a ravenous population of spiders in my lab that must be fed, or there will be consequences. The one problem is that I’m still stuck in a wheelchair, which turned out to be almost no problem at all. The only steps I had to deal with were 3 short steps just outside my back door, and the rest of the way was all ramps, all the way to the science building elevator. Then, of course, I had my assistant Mary to push me there and back.

Actual photo of Mary helping me navigate the science building this morning.

The only real problem was that, as always it seems, we had another major thunderstorm roll through, with skies dark as night and thunder and lightning and a drenching rain. I think it’s fine that my return to the lab would be heralded with spooky nightmare weather.

Now the spiders are all snug in their webs, happily crunching through mealworms and flies, and all is right in the world.

You aren’t the only one who had an exciting morning.

FBI raids home of John Bolton, former Trump national security advisor
    PUBLISHED FRI, AUG 22 2025

“Bolton is a staunch critic of Trump,…”

I don’t like John Bolton and even I think this is way out of line.

I’m sure the FBI would be raiding my home in a second if they had any idea who I was and anyone cared all that much what I said about Trump. A lot and none of it good.

My wife drove a few miles to a bay side nature trail, and walked 1.8 miles this morning. Her longest walk since January when she injured her knee. The bone doctor told her on Thursday that she’ll probably need to continue PT for a couple of months but progress, particularly after he did the “Manipulation Under Anesthesia”.

    robro @ # 2,
Your wife is so lucky! I started going downhill after a knee surgery. Then things got much worse after the surgeon botched my lumbar spine surgery. I found a revision specialist to repair what the other surgeon had done, but the damage seems to have been done. I can’t walk at all without assistance.
I was sad that I couldn’t join my husband on his brisk walks on the recreation trail next to the Monterey Bay.
Problem solved once we bought my powered chair. We can walk and roll on the rec trail together.

Cue Alien: Earth, the part where the flimsy glass containers trapping the organisms break.
