The world is riddled with maggots

And they all came out on the day the Nazi died. Chumbawamba’s got their number.

The Nazis never really went away, they’re out there burning houses down and peddling racist lies…and we’ll never rest again until every Nazi dies.

Sing it loud.

And in today’s federal election aboit 20% of the German voters voted for the fascists. The Third Reich does not need a remake!
And the winner is the conservative party whose head copied the fascist’s racist rhetoric and pissed of every possible non-fascist coalition partner. Fun times ahead.

Right on, right on, right on!

There are Nazi maggots coming out of the woodwork wherever you look these days. My sister-in-law went from being a passionate Bernie supporter to a goose-stepping, Trump heiling, brain dead MAGA zombie. At least she’s not my flesh and blood sister. Small consolation, but it’s something.

Hey, at least Merz’ incompetence helped get Gysi in position to become Alterspräsident. As he noted himself, the inaugural speech of the Alterspräsident of the Bundestag has no fixed time limit.

And another small thing that is positive this election is that a certain party was at least severely punished for its traitorous ways.

I don’t want to complain about the quantity of maggots before knowing how suitable they are for spider food.

@lasius: Yeah, the “less taxes for the rich” party getting kicked out of parliament was the only positive thing I expected from this election, and it happened.
A writer at Spiegel Online called the resignation of Lindner (the partie’s current head and the person mainly responsible for sabotaging the last government) the best news from this election.

I posted this before, but fuck it I’m inspired to post it again. (If there’s such a thing as the true spirit of America – this is it.)

    mordred@1,

True that Merz copied the fascists’ rhetoric, but I don’t think he’ll go into coalition with them – it would mean not only breaking his word, but truckling to Mump, who he’s started by slagging off for their outrageous interference. His only other option is a coalition with the SPD, which means they have a degree of bargaining power. Mind you, the outgoing government was pro-genocide in Palestine, that’s not going to change.

  8. lasius says

    @KG

it would mean not only breaking his word

Oh goodness me, Merz breaking his word? Unheard of.

  9. KG says

    lasius@12,

Don’t pretend to be stupider than you are. When a prominent politician has made an unequivocal promise on a vital matter repeatedly and in public, breaking that promise tends to have political costs. And of course you omit the rest of the sentence, which gives an additional reason Merz will be reluctant to go back on his promise not to enter coalition with the fascists. He had no particular need to attack Mump at this point, and not doing so would have left him more room for manoeuvre.

The failure of the red-brown Putin shills to reach 5% is another positive point.

And the tax the rich more party die Linke did surprisingly well.
But re Merz, well there was a rebellion in his own party when he tried to ram through a new law just before the election with the AFD. So his own party wouldn’t let him negotiate with the AFD.
But his economic policies are arithmetically impossible, so he needs a coalition to allow him to back off from those.

Yeah, and Merz did just that a few weeks ago and it didn’t cost him much. I never liked Mittelschicht-Fritze, but his conduct with the AfD proved to me that you can’t trust him on that matter either. He probably won’t do a coalition with the AfD this time, but 4 more years down the line all bets are off.

    @9 mordred

Yeah, the “less taxes for the rich” party getting kicked out of parliament was the only positive thing I expected from this election, and it happened.

Unfortunately the AfD is an even worse “less taxes for the rich” party.

Meanwhile in Canada: the conservatives had an unassailable lead in polls that would have led to one of the largest majority governments in history and a near wipe-out of the currently governing Liberals.

But that was two months ago. Now, the conservatives are likely to form the official opposition again and have seat totals similar to what we have now, probably an increase in liberal seats.

The difference is, largely, due to Trump.

I don’t follow German politics very closely.
But the new chancellor candidate seems to have figured out one thing at least.

“The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic and drastic and ultimately outrageous than the interventions we have seen from Moscow,” he said. “We are under so much pressure from two sides that my absolute priority now really is to create unity in Europe.”

The USA has become very unstable and completely unreliable.

The most outrageous example was how we treated our (former) friend, Canada. We have a long standing treaty with Canada and Mexico, the NAFTA free trade agreement. It was renamed by Trump himself as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

One of the first things Trump did when he took office was slap tariffs on Canadian exports to the USA. In violation of his own treaty.
He drove through the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement like it wasn’t even there.

    The lesson is obvious.
Treaties mean nothing to the USA any more. Nothing, Zero, Nichts. Nada. There is no point in making any treaties or agreements with the USA. We will just forget they exist and ignore them for any reason or no reason.

Germany’s Merz takes aim at US interference, pledges European unity

German conservative leader Friedrich Merz pledged to help Europe achieve “real independence from the US” on defence in stark remarks hours after his centre-right CDU/CSU bloc won Sunday’s parliamentary election, making him the presumptive next chancellor.

“For me, the absolute priority will be to strengthen Europe as quickly as possible so that, step by step, we can achieve real independence from the US,” said the CDU/CSU leader.

Merz even went as far as to question whether NATO will continue to be relevant in its current format, “or if we need to develop independent European defence capabilities much faster.”

“That is my absolute priority, and I have absolutely no illusions about what is happening in America,” Merz said.

Merz took aim at Musk’s interventions in the German election campaign, comparing them to interference from Russia.

“The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic and drastic and ultimately outrageous than the interventions we have seen from Moscow,” he said. “We are under so much pressure from two sides that my absolute priority now really is to create unity in Europe.”

Trumps foreign policy is to cozy up and enable our enemies such as Russia.
While making sure what were our friends, such as Canada, Mexico, the EU, etc. fear us and deeply, seriously hate us.

This is of course, completely cuckoo and self defeating.
It violates the First Rule of Kindergarten.
Be nice to your friends or you won’t have any.

The rest of the world just need to realize we are completely unreliable and possibly dangerous.
There are however, a lot of things the rest of the world can do to deal with the New World Order.

    It’s a big world.
Tilt towards China, which isn’t much better but at least is a lot further away. And is more interesting in trade and making money than in insulting other countries.
    Tilt towards the BRICS.
    Tilt towards the European Union.

Canada might want to think about joining the European Union.
I know they technically aren’t in Europe but does that really matter?
In any event, they could become closely tied to the EU through the EEA like Iceland.
“Iceland is not a member of the European Union (EU). However, it has close ties to the EU through the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement.

It seems sometimes like the USA is now something like a Mad Cow with a prion disease. You just have to isolate it and let the disease burn itself out. It might take a few years, it might take a generation or two.
    It could be worse.
For people like me and 346 million other Americans, as the disease burns itself out, we are here, getting fried along with the USA, whether we like it or not.
Think of us progressives as B and T immune cells, battling an infection, and so far we are losing.
