Wow. We can get away with just about anything.
An Anchorage man who strangled a woman unconscious on the side of a road, all while threatening to kill her, and then masturbated on her, walked out of court on Wednesday with no future jail time under his belt.
How? How can he escape punishment? Well, the judge decided that losing his job was penalty enough, and since he was a “member of the community”, he had faith that he’d never be naughty again.
Let’s just ignore that he said this:
After Schneider’s victim woke up, he reportedly told her “that he wasn’t really going to kill her, that he needed her to believe she was going to die so that he could be sexually fulfilled.”
And this:
“I would just like to emphasize how grateful I am for this process,” Schneider said. “It has given me a year to really work on myself and become a better person, and a better husband, and a better father, and I’m very eager to continue that journey.”
He’s going to do it again. You know he’s going to do whatever he can get away with.
By the way, does anyone still think Kavanaugh won’t be on the Supreme Court soon enough?

My wife told me last night that this happened in the golf course next to my old apartment recently. A guy murdered a woman apparently for the hell of it.
Same state as the Molly Tibbets murder, close in time. Not receiving the same media coverage. This guy had a history of violence: he nearly choked his ex to death, he injured a cop, he threatened to kill the staff at a store when he was caught shoplifting. But of course, he is white.
About a year and a half ago, a white supremacist ambushed and murdered two cops in separate locations on the same night around Des Moines. He turned himself in and claimed he’d mixed up his medications that day. Crock of shit.

The only response I have to this is “FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU!” typed out until I find a size limit for comments.
Also, the victim is native so I’ve no doubt there is all sorts of levels of racism at work here on top of the misogyny.

Never doubted for a minute that he would be confirmed.

Yeah, but remember that a victim’s duty is to go to the police or else she’s the one responsible for future assaults.
It’s not like she has to submit herself to a renewed traumatic experience so the perpetrator can use it as an opportunity for personal growth.

What? You mean he wasn’t a member of the community when he committed the crime?
Faith is certainly the word. Reason does not appear to have been involved.

That probably has as much to with it as the guy being white.

“He was a member of the community.”
Apparently, his victim wasn’t.

tororosoba, actually, it’s very much a case of rule of law in action.

OP:
Technically (had to click twice to get here) the source of the source reported:
“An Anchorage grand jury indicted Justin Schneider, 34, on four felony charges including kidnapping and assault, and one misdemeanor count of Harassment I–offensive contact with fluids — for the August 2017 incident.
Schneider struck a deal with the state, pleading guilty to a single felony assault charge in exchange for a sentence of two years with one suspended. Schneider faces no additional jail time.”
He might have escaped due punishment (I too am aghast) but he didn’t entirely escape punishment.
John Morales says
Must add:
“When asked why Schneider was not required to register as a sex offender, Grannik explained that the conduct in the case did not meet the legal requirements of sexual assault charges, even though the assault included sexual elements. ”
FFS! He choked her unconscious (big risk of death right there) specifically (and admittedly!) for sexual gratification! It makes absolutely no sense not to think of it as a sexual assault.
So those legal requirements are equally obviously insufficient given this is their outcome.
(I didn’t see anything about an appeal, either. But then, the whole plea-deal business makes no legal sense to me, either — and yes, I understand its basis. But legally, it’s bullshit)

Do we know the race of his victim? I’m wondering when both people are white does the whiteness of the victim mean the other person is actually punished or does whiteness always favor the guilty in the case of a tie?
