Insane clowns is exactly right

A lot of people sent me links to that really dope Insane Clown Posse video where they expressed wonder at how magnets work and cussed out the scientists for lying to them, but I ignored you all, because when I said “dope”, I meant it literally. It was a pair of poseurs exposing their ignorance.

Don’t go looking for it. It’s just too awful. Instead, appreciate this lovely parody from Saturday Night Live.

I didn’t realize that the SNL thing was a specific parody. Now it’s even funnier.

  2. Hank Fox says

Twice in towns where I lived, the Insane Clown Posse failed to show up for scheduled performances — and it seemed at the time they just couldn’t be bothered to play. Probably because ticket sales sucked.

My opinion: The Insane Clown Posse are dicks.

I’d run ten miles to avoid seeing or hearing them.

  3. Egaeus says

I made the mistake of not listening. I couldn’t make it all the way through. What an extraordinary display of willful ignorance.

  4. Zeno says

There was no reason to send you the original video, PZ, because your posts attest to your genteel taste and refinement.

I think it’s more likely they were just standing and drooling in a parking lot somewhere because they were too daft to read a road map to the places they’re really supposed to be playing.

Even MTV, the bastion of sense and sanity, have joined the pile-on.

ICP were annoying in an occasionally entertaining fashion (very occasional fwiw) but they seem to have passed the event horizon of epic fail with this one.

  7. Andyo says

Last night when I read about this parody on the net I found out more than I care not only about those two idiots, but also their dumbass “juggalo” followers.

Fortunately, cracked.com is on the case, them not begin fuckin scientists and all:

    I Don’t Understand!

Well, to be perfectly honest, I don’t know what to tell you, because I’ve just about exhausted my Juggalo-slang resources. I visited a bunch of Juggalo Dictionaries: did you know you guys have like six different words for “clown pussy” but none for “electricity?” It’s no wonder you guys have trouble with science.

    Magnets are Clown Pussy?

  8. Ol'Greg says

Haha Andyo I see you got the original source. I forgot where it was that came from :P

  9. Andyo says

I always mean to remember myself to read boingboing once in a while but I forget. The source is linked in the article though, isn’t it?

In any case, I googled “juggalo” and quickly stumbled onto this site where there are other funnies.

  10. KOPD says

I listened to the original and I’m curious if anybody happens to know what it is that the Incredulous Duo believe scientists are lying about? Everything or something specific?

  11. irenedelse says

Hah! The SNL team has a point: volcanos are pretty angry hills! Look at Iceland! OMG, the geologists are lyyyying!!

  12. Nerd of Redhead, OM says

OK, but wait: how do fucking magnets work?

I thought it was when the north pole and south pole love each other very much…

I thought it was when the north pole and south pole love each other very much…

No no no! That’s how you make more magnets. They work by PFM*.

    *Pure fucking magic.

The MTV site linked to above made a mention of They Might be Giants, who as I recalled have some rather intelligent songs. In checking, I discovered a fairly new one (or at least new to me), Meet the Elements (nothing like Tom Lehrer’s classic). A number of other potentially reality-based tunes are also listed, which I’m now off to listen to…

  15. KOPD says

They Might Be Giants is a pretty cool group. Here is their response to the song “The Sun is a mass of incandescent gas.”

  16. ted.dahlberg says

“The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
    A gigantic nuclear furnace
where hydrogen is built into helium
at a temperature of millions of degrees”

One of the best songs ever *going off to listen to TMBG*

  17. a_ray_in_dilbert_space says

The SNL parody is kind of parody in the same sense that Tina Fey was parodying Sarah Palin, right?

Oh, and Sven diMilo: How serious are you about wanting to know how magnets work? It’s pretty cool.

They Might Be Giants is a pretty cool group. Here is their response to the song “The Sun is a mass of incandescent gas.”

I’m in awe of them now. That’s about one step away from peer-reviewed music.

  19. Shplane says

I have always hated ICP, largely because their music sucks.

Now I get to hate them because they’re incredibly stupid, too. :D

  20. https://me.yahoo.com/a/fGT.ApA4svgZGv5uZPWdIaQWVVO0#7da76 says

I wonder what they said when they beeped out ‘D**ks’? – so glad I am protected from the abomination of hearing the shorter version of ‘Richard’s’.

  21. Aaron Baker says

Thank you again Myers for surveying stupidity so that we don’t have to. Have you considered a book on the stupidity you’ve experienced? You could knock it off with a fraction of the effort needed for a peer-reviewed article, and it might actually sell decently.

  22. Yunomi says

Years ago, I rather enjoyed ICP, but hanging out at Pharyngula has shown me the error of my ways.

  23. ecpaulsen says

    Poseurs is right!

When I was in my twenties I used to work at the Bloomfield Hills Kinkos in Michigan and those two assholes and their manager came in all of the time busting the employees humps then complaining to the store manager so they could get their order cheap or free. Not they they were the ONLY bandtards who gave grief, just the rudest. And they are outta DETROIT?!? Yeah, the really rich, very white, not really in Detroit section of Detroit.

  24. Kel, OM says

Speaking of which, the latest episode of “The Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe” podcast also have a take on these dopes.

Does this mean when I listen to the SGU for this week I’m going to be subject to Insane Clown Posse? Fuck, I though I got away from that shit in high school (when other students would play it in electronics class).

  25. MarianLibrarian says

    #41
Not to worry, Kel, they don’t actually play the song. There is a brief reading of some of the lyrics by Rebecca Watson that is full of win, though.

    #35 and #38

Unfortunately, “gay ass shit” is the title on the YouTube video, and you can’t watch Hulu in the UK (and presumably a lot of other countries).

And I agree with most of you, the original ICP video is actually more hilarious than this, but this one is shorter.

I love the part where Ryan Phillipe says “Is the world round, or is it flat?” then angrily demands to know “How come no one can tell me that?” It encapsulates the overall attitude of the whole ICP song perfectly.

  26. J Myers says

I just watched the original, in which one of the “miracles” they mention is that their children look like them. I wonder if their partners find this as miraculous as they seem to.

  27. Aaron Baker says

I watched the original, too. The universe consists not just of miracles, but “fuckin’ miracles.” Glad that was clarified for me.

  28. drf5n1 says

I thought the ICP original was an unintentional parody. My only prior exposure to ICP was after I was trying to figure out why someone was tossing empty cans of grape-“Joose” and “Four” (caffeinated grain-coolers? WTF?) in my bushes. The google search led to juggalos & ICP.

After watching the magnets bit, it makes me smirk:

“Fucking trinity, how do they work?”

  29. smartbrainus says

I was wondering when you’d discuss them, considering it’s the same mentality behind Chaprawoo and creationism.

However, a theoretical science book by them would be entertaining, if only for the cluster f-bombs.

  30. Jessa says

From a comment on the original video’s YouTube page:

IggyM:”Water, fire air and dirt, fucking magnets, how do they work?”
Our generation has finally found our Bob Dylan. Brilliant.

  31. skinnymull says

Fuckin’ rainbows? Pets and magnets? Fuckin’miracles? This is the most inane crap I have ever heard. Makes Vanilla Ice seem almost talented. I said almost.

  32. Escuerd says

I just couldn’t listen, could I? I just had to go and search for the original anyway. I had managed to get this far in my life without having to listen to any of Insane Clown Posse’s worthless screeching, but now I cannot unhear it. It didn’t even have the saving grace of being tolerable to listen to. Then again, that’s probably a good thing.

There was a song by System of a Down called Science that I thought had a fairly nice tune (your tastes may vary). Unfortunately, the lyrics were full of such repugnant and explicitly anti-scientific drivel that I couldn’t stand to listen to it for fear that it would get stuck in my head and ultimately cause me to despair by continually reminding me that that level of stupidity permeates so many aspects of our society.

Oh well. Reading some cracked and thinking about some physics homework should clear that right up.

  33. Clint R. says

    Screaming, lying, vocal masturbation,
Our music is another one of god’s creations, yo.

  34. https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawlYUN6H6nb5_zFQQ0Ws1CF0tYDXe1JhGvM says

Rush Limbaugh has just been outed as Violent J of Insane Clown Posse. His belief in volcanoes being caused by the health care bill matches perfectly with ICP’s new song Miracles and just as deep as the line “How do magnets work?”

They look to be about the same weight and depth of knowledge.

  35. Cerberus says

Apparently parodying the ignorance is really big. The comedy Troupe Loading Ready Run also took a whack at parody here. With a “jugalo” scientist response to the ICP about how science explains “miracles”.

  36. Code Monkey says

    Has anyone seen this yet?
It’s a pretty good rebuttal by the Canadian comedy troupe ‘loading ready run’

  37. Poggy says

I just cannot grasp how this couldn’t be a joke (the original video, that is). Giraffes, rainbows, mountains, I can understand, but magnets? Man made things? They think they are miracles. Do they think God invented all magnets and we mine them, or something? Straight from the ground and onto your fridge!

  38. James F says

    Akira MacKenzie #48:

Apparently, the dullards at Uncommon Descent loved it and compared ICP with, of all people, Francis Bacon:

Who knew Paul Nelson was a juggalo?

    From the UD comments:

The guys in that video have yet another reason to believe in miracles now – the miracle that their video is being discussed in a serious forum.
