We got about a foot of snow here this weekend, and a blizzard is supposed to blow through after midnight…so the university has cancelled all the early morning classes, including my 8am developmental biology course! How dare they!
This weekend, I got the next two weeks worth of lectures all prepped, and now I’m so disappointed that I don’t get to talk about this really cool stuff tomorrow. But I guess that’s better than having students kill themselves on slickery nasty roads in white-out conditions. I guess.

I fail to see how an unexpected opportunity to sleep in is a bad thing, especially when it entails NOT having to go outside to fulfill one’s workplace obligations.

You folks in the path of that, be safe. The only benefit to the area I live in is that if we hit around 40 degree, it is considered to be “freezingly” cold. Hell, an inch of snow is sufficient to shut down this entire metroplex.

Last Thursday’s snow that we ha down here in Cheeseland was pretty intense. Fortunately, Thursday’s are my equivelnt to Saturday’s, so I got to stay home all day safe and cozy under a blanket with a warm dog, eating chili with melted cheddar, and streaming monster movies online.

The school district I teach in has never closed schools for snow. We teachers are expected to get to school, even if the students don’t make it.

I think it is supposed to 68 here tomorrow. My daughter and I did run around the block, it was a pleasant day out there. We’ll pay for it in the summer when a cool day is when we are only in the mid-90′s.

Just hold the lesson the next time when it is safe and arrange an additional date with the students to make up for the lost time. They will come.

My area has had the worst luck with winter storms the past two years. One passes to the north, dumps rain. Another way to the south. And the east and the west. But no classic low-pressure whopper on top of me.

But… you are forgetting the great thing about winter: Calling in sick during a blizzard and feeling schadenfreude as you see the schmucks ouside stumbling through the snow, crashing their cars and generally suffering. BWAHAHAHAHA!

Yes he has, apparently because he has “evaluated his conscience” and come to the conclusion that he should resign because he’s too ill to fullfill the needs of the Church or something… as I said on my FB, however, a proper ethical response to the news that large numbers of his employees have been raping children seems to escape him. Huh. It looks like the bad weather is going around us for once instead of sitting right over us to get its kicks in.
Though I must quibble with the weather channel’s description of what’s going on outside my window as “light snow”. Light snow comes down softly on the vertical; it does not blow in sideways.

I would say I feel your pain but the blizzard last Friday dumped 96.5 centimeters on me (38 inches for those of us in the States)
I know I live in New England but this is ridiculous! The snowplows keep getting stuck in the snow.
My poor half Jack Russel pooch wants to know where his yard went, I had to shovel him a path out the back door, you can’t see him once he jumps off the bottom step.
