I know I’m going to regret this

But I’m going to The Genesis Movie tonight. I figure this is my only chance before it is relegated to church basements around the country. I’ll be at the Parkwood 18 theater in Waite Park if anyone wants to join me in misery.

Just so you know, though, I do follow the Prime Directive in these events — no interference with the primitive, crude, barbaric civilizations that put on these ignorant demonstrations. I’m there to observe; I might ask questions of citizens who are open to that sort of thing, but otherwise, only respectful behavior while I take notes on the foolishness on display. If your intent is disruption, no no no, stay away from me.
There is a good chance I’ll get thrown out even if I’m quiet and polite, so I don’t need need any assistance from rowdy compatriots.

Then again… does the Prime Directive apply to life forms that are un-developing? Devolving? Ruled forever by the strongest bully in the tribe? Does the Prime Directive apply when the primitives not only can’t learn, but won’t learn?

Never mind. It’s the wise thing to do. Some of them might be looking for a new enemy.

The movie’s website promises “stunning visual 3D effects” on selected screens. I shudder to think how many people of faith will perceive computerized visual stunts and ear-shattering audio as proof of the Gospel, but I’m not as brave as Prof. Myers — like Mel Gibson’s The Passion of Jesus Christ, I’ll never expose myself to it.

Clicked through to website, and noted on bottom:

Special appearance by: Ken Ham, Dr. Terry Mortenson, Dr. Andrew Fabich, Dr. Georgia Purdom, Ray Comfort, and more

(punctuation (including Oxford comma) added, and font changed appropriately)

Brace yourself. The Fountains of the Deep Stupid will open, and there will be a FLOOD of creobot creobabble.

    davidnangle @2:

I’m not sure it matters, since the Prime Directive was generally treated as a guideline that could be freely ignored without consequence any time the captain didn’t feel like following it.

    i dont buy it
what have you ever really regretted?
I mean, you have never done one those cooking shows, a dancing show?

Microraptor @5: Tell that to my GM. Every time I suggest that we contact the natives to help us take down the Jem’Hadar that are kidnapping them (for reasons yet to be made clear), I get told “Prime Directive”. As though their culture isn’t already being messed with by the Dominium. That’s like Picard level of sticking to the letter of the Directive.

I wouldn’t want things to get to the level of creating a planet of Chicago gangsters, let alone a Rome or Nazi planet, but I do yearn more towards Kirk end of things.
