Smug and rotten

Listen to the judges on this Ecuadorian talent contest. They say they respect the opinions of the contestant, they aren’t judging her, but the bottom line is that they declare that she can’t win a singing competition because she doesn’t believe in god. They use her disbelief as an excuse to hector her and act all pious and sanctimonious.

Arrogant hypocrites. Don’t ever let these kinds of assholes call atheists arrogant — just show them this clip. Then puke on their shoes.

Wow, what judgemental assholes. I don’t think they really want to get into a religious debate on a show like this, they just want to use their perceived power to preach.

    Grade -A assholes.

“You’re still 16 years old, I believe you have had a pretty good life so far, but there will come a time when you will suffer, and the only thing that will help you get through it is the amazing love of god” – Says the wealthy and popular adult to the lone and unknown teen on stage. The only one showing maturity there was the contestant.

“I’m not judging, now listen to me as I judge you and you better smile as I insult you and don’t dare talk back because I hold your fate in this contest in my hands.”

I got married in Ecuador. It was a challenge. My wife’s Ecuadorian friends were confused that we weren’t having a wedding in a church – some of them said that if it wasn’t in the church then it wasn’t a real marriage. More than 10 wedding planners refused to work with us because they couldn’t get their heads around the idea of an outdoor wedding.

My mother in law foisted a priest on us at the last second and we didn’t have the energy to fight any more – at least my wife was able to limit him to 15 mins instead of the 1 hour mass that he’d wanted to perform. Since my guests were all atheists who don’t speak Spanish that would have been one of the most boring hours I could imagine.

This TV show doesn’t surprise me at all.

+100 on this. Also, many points for honesty and strength. I want to hire this person.

Bullies, religious or otherwise, always make my blood boil. What arrogant pricks these people are, not just the judges, but also the producers of this horrendous fakery (note the careful use of focus on the fake piety of the man in the wings with her father). And they aren’t only bullies, they’re pathetically stupid bullies, apparently completely oblivious to their own privilage, and their own hypocracy.

I see this show as an excellent proof of the non-existence of the Christian god, or at least version thereof; because if a big Authority in the Sky did exist, and hated hypocrites as much as he says he does, there would be nothing but smoking piles of ash in those judges’ chairs by the end of the video.

The contestant herself probably suggested that she be asked about god.

Contestants on those shows know how to generate publicity for their cause.

Those judges prove once again that anything in a sentence before the word ‘but’ can be disregarded as bullshit in the best case, and lies in the worst case.

  8. Beatrice, an amateur cynic looking for a happy thought says

    grumpyoldfart,

She’s 16, which means she’s either one of the oldest contestants in a show for kids or one if the youngest in a show for adults. Either way, there’s only slim probability she orchestrated anything. She isn’t the star of the show, until the last couple of episodes she is nothing. If anyone was making a deliberate showing , it was the producers who might have heard she wasn’t religious.

These shows are mostly bullshit anyway, but this one really takes the cake.

    Sounds like a threat.
