Oh, horrors. One of those wicked people at Mad Art Lab has made himself a costume: a gender-bent version of Slave Leia. It makes my planned Rancor costume look pathetic. (In my case, it just involved stripping.)

I know a little Slave Leo who’s sleeping with daddy tonight.

Is it bad that I think he looks kind of cute?

dianne – I think he looks totally amazing, so I don’t think that’s bad at all. :)

Well, I think he succeed at this rather well. The costume seems to do that, and he does wear it well.

Well done, but that kilt is a total copout. Waaaaayyyy too much coverage. If he really wants to understand what it’s like to be Slave Leia’s male doppleganger, he should be wearing a chain-mail man-thong.
Love the hot pink Darth Vader, though. Geek conventions are just not my thing, the gender-bent costumes are just generally a brilliant idea.

Yeah, it’s about as revealing as a pair of swim trunks. Not nearly the same. But still, very impressive!
Now let’s have a science fiction movie featuring a heterosexual male in the same basic role as Princess Leia, enslaved and forced to wear similar garb (including thong) and show off his amazing 22 (?) year old body….and have it become the standard for all science fiction lore and fanaticism for the next 35 years, with that costume being far and away the most popular for male attendees…..and we’ll talk.

The Mellow Monkey: Damn, I’ve been scooped!
But, you know, me too. I enjoyed the sight, and I appreciate his effort to explore and understand his reactions to the Slave Leia costume. That makes it even better, for me.

Yeah, his effort is really admirable in this. He didn’t just play it off as a joke, as “ha ha, man as submissive sexual object!” or anything like that. He took it seriously and really made a work of art. Based on the first pictures he shows, I was worried he was going to make a big chest plate and turn it into a gladiator style costume, but he didn’t cop out of the objectifying aspects of the costume.
Really well done all around.

Well, they did kind of do that in Barbarella, but for some reason it just didn’t become a thing.
But that does sound intriguing……

Funny, I’ve seen a few Barbarella cosplays, but never a Dildano. Or a Concierge, come to that.

That’s quite a costume, and he wears it well!
I thought I’d suffered an odd lapse of memory, because even though I did see Star Wars, and was quite favourably impressed by Carrie Fisher, I had no memory of her in a gold bikini – but I see that came in ROTJ.

Ha, that’s pretty awesome.
I have one small issue with calling something “gender bending” because it was made in pink, though. I can’t decide if the description is overreaching or lacking something in that case. It is still an amusing twist on a weirdly maintained stereotype.

Ooooh, yesplz.
Relatedly, I am really creeped out that most imagery of (straight) male submission is all about ridiculousness and humiliation. I get that some people like that exclusively, but it sure is telling that even then, there’s no desire to appeal to the dominant partner.
