Crazy Joe Walsh rides to Obama’s rescue

You knew the crazy teabagging congressional caucus couldn’t go long keeping their crazy science-y ideas to themselves about the mysterious lady parts. After a dreadful summer topped off by Todd Akin, Quasi-MD., the first debate and subsequent polling seem to finally turn Romney’s way. Which is why I bet crazy Joe Walsh is being told to politely and firmly by his colleagues to please cease and desist before this turns into another Todd Akin flap:

WGN— Walsh said he was against abortion “without exception,” including rape, incest and in cases in which the life or health of the mother was in jeopardy.

Asked by reporters after the debate if he was saying that it’s never medically necessary to conduct an abortion to save the life of a mother, Walsh responded, “Absolutely. With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance,” he said. … There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing.”

Incidentally, the very healthcare that might reduce pregnancies that pose a threat to the mother’s life are precisely the healthcare measures Walsh and his sick cohorts oppose to their lying, dying breath.

Actually, there is one reaosn why Teabagging jerks would support an aboriton: to save the political life of the philandering father:

A pro-life, family-values congressman who worked as a doctor before winning election as a Tea Party-backed Republican had an affair with a patient and later pressured her to get an abortion, according to a phone call transcript obtained by The Huffington Post.

Anyway, back to the main course. To underline what a classless, clueless douche Walsh really is, he made this zany comment in the context of a debate with his female opponent, a former combat pilot who lost both of her legs when she was shot down in the early days of the Iraq War.

My GOP counteraprts wouldn’t come right out and admit it to me last night, but after Binders-full-of-WOMEN, I think they’re hoping and praying this doesn’t gain the kind of traction Akin’s stupidity did a few weeks ago. And they better hope those incantations work.

What Walsh meant by “modern technology and science” was what we had as of 1 second ago. Have any women died of pregnancy in the US in the past second? I don’t think so! Take that, Liberals!

    *snark*

I’m going to write about this later, maybe next week, but I was eating lunch with a moderate conservative buddy who is way better informed than most grass roots conservatives, i.e., he’s a great source of objective info. I asked him why GOP is wishy washy or against about Lilly Ledbetter, etc, his response was there are studies and raw data available in that world indicating there is no pay or raise disparity and it’s all made up or exaggerated. There is no problem, ergo there is no need to fix it.

Hemorrhage from ectopic pregnancy is still the leading cause of pregnancy related maternal death in the first trimester and accounts for 4 to 10 percent of all pregnancy related deaths, despite improved diagnostic methods leading to earlier detection and treatment.

    Those pesky facts again.

  4. dianne says

I can name a dozen or more conditions that will cause maternal death without abortion without thinking too hard about it or looking anything up. And I’m not even an OB. Furthermore, there was a specific well known case of a woman nearly dying due to lack of abortion recently. Remember the famous Catholic hospital in Arizona incident? Where does this man get his information? An ouija board?

I know very little about pregnancy — it literally took me all of a few seconds to find reams of cases of fatal and near fatal complications from a dozen indisputable sources. These clowns are dangerous.

I’m beginning to think that Republican science may be evidence for alternate dimensions – it would explain why their reality bears no resemblance to our reality.

    These clowns are dangerous.

In more ways than one. Birth control coverage is their excuse to oppose the health care reform act. Since there is extremely good evidence linking inadequate insurance or lack of insurance to worse health outcomes, the Republicans are–knowingly–acting in a manner that will result in the premature deaths of tens of thousands of Americans. At a minimum. The 911 terrorists weren’t even in it when it comes to mass killings of Americans.

Yeah, I very nearly died due to an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy that had been “missed” by the doctor at a Catholic hospital I had gone to complaining of intermittent severe abdominal pain. With no more examination but poking at my belly after I had been given a big dose of demerol, the doctor told me I had gastritis. The next night I arrived at the emergency room of a tiny little hospital in the wilds of eastern Wisconsin with a blood pressure of 60/40. After getting as much fluid into me as they thought they could, they operated and I went into ventricular fibrillation twice during the surgery. I was 19 and very healthy or I would definitely have died.

Years later I read in my ex’s ER textbook that if a sexually active woman arrives in the ER complaining of abdominal pain of any kind and you don’t rule out an ectopic pregnancy you are guilty of malpractice. I never saw anything even remotely approaching such a flat statement in any of his other textbooks. I have wondered since if the fact that it was a Catholic hospital had anything to do with the missed diagnosis.

So I guess the one GOP-allowed exception to abortion is if the fetus is a political terrorist?

I’m beginning to think that Republican science may be evidence for alternate dimensions – it would explain why their reality bears no resemblance to our reality.

I think the simpler explanation is that membership to the present-day GOP requires some kind of diagnosed psychosis.

    @9, Otrame
I doubt missing the diagnosis was attributable to it being a Catholic hospital (based on what’s known about Catholic- vs non-Catholic-run hospitals and quality of care). What IS the real scandal regarding Catholic hospitals and ectopic pregnancies is in how they are treated.

Typically, the standard of care at non-Catholic hospitals is to attempt to treat medically, through administration of drugs that terminate the pregnancy, dissolve it and clear the tube, if it’s a tubal ectopic pregnancy. At a Catholic hospital, because the administration of drugs to terminate the pregnancy, aka an abortion, is flat-out disallowed, they jump right to surgery and remove a portion of the tube. Of course doing so terminates the product of conception in the tube just as much as dissolving it with drugs does, but the nifty little “Doctrine of the Double Effect” allows the RCC to claim that removing the tube portion is treating the mother and the “death” of the “fetus” is an unfortunate unintentional consequence. Ridiculous and disingenuous, of course.

The big problem is that this approach means some women will walk out of the hospital with fertility problems thanks to having a tube removed or scarred. And no Catholic hospital has a policy that says patients have to be told “we recommend surgery, but the secular hospital down the street has another way of doing it which you should know about” prior to gaining consent for surgery. And if an ambulance is called, what woman is going to think in that moment “Shit! Turn around, I need to go to the non-catholic hospital”? It’s really quite awful.

It’s amazing how many stupid right-wing douchebags had been diagnosed as liberal hippies when they were younger. Not that liberals lack conservatism when is comes to sexism, but they don’t usually rationalize it with this sort of fact-lacking weird thinkery from Dimension R.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is the massive douche who abandoned his kids, and owes thousands in back child support.Again,I could be wrong.Anybody?

Yeah, Joe Walsh is as slimy as they come.

He owed over $100,000 in child support not too long ago and his ex had to take him to court to get it.

Walsh the family values Taliban wannabe, has been married twice, divorced twice, and has 5 kids. Which he apparently doesn’t care enough about to support.

One wonders what they did for food. They might well have been part of those 47% moochers and parasites the Tea Party hates. You know old people on social security and kids on food stamps.

    Walsh is likely a sociopath.

    wikipedia:

In the United States, the maternal death rate was 21 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births in 2010.[11

Walsh is of course, completely wrong. There are a lot of conditions that can make a pregnancy fatal.

Even Rick, Dark Ages Pope wannabe, Satanorum’s wife, had a late stage abortion to save her life. A fact that is well documented that he tries to deny anyway.

The only moral abortion is theirs.

Even with state of the art medical care, pregnancy and childbirth is sometimes fatal. In the USA, 21 women die per 100,000 live births which puts the USA at IIRC, something like 48th worldwide.

Where is our corporate media on this? Why are they not asking Rick Santorum about this?

You can be certain that if the situation were reversed, and had it been a couple of Democrats who had spewed such nonsense, they would be chewed up by the mainstream media, after FOX “News” had cut them up.

  17. says

It’s relatively easy to see the real-world consequences of such policies. All you need to do is look at maternal mortality in countries such as Romania before, during, and after its ban on abortion or Nicaragua, where a fact-finding ream reported that more than eighty women died in the first eleven months after it banned abortion.
