A cheater, a heretic, and a hustler

That’s what the GOP field boils down to for the fundamentalist base of the Republican Party. Bible thumping dominionists, associated neoconfederate racists, and a handful of reptilian corporate overlords have to choose between a serial adulterer, a flip-flopping heretic, and a controversial hustler. Right now the hustler leads by a hair, but insiders say the heretic is favored by the big money boyz and will thus probably prevail in the end. No one is giving the cheater much of a chance right now:

(CBS News) — In the Republican race for the presidential nomination, Newt Gingrich’s support continues to slowly grow, and he is now tied with Mitt Romney for second place, while Herman Cain just edges both of them out for the top spot. Both Cain and Romney have lost support since late October. In a new CBS News Poll, 61 percent of Republican primary voters say the sexual harassment accusations against Cain won’t make any difference in their vote, but 30 percent say the charges make them less likely to back him, and that rises to 38 percent among women.

As discussed widely, most progressives like me would love to see Cain or Gingrich get the nod. Just having those clowns in the race and shooting their mouths off has already alienated conservative leaning soccer moms and single mothers. The longer they stay in and the better they do, the worse it is for Mittens and the better it gets for us. Dare we dream the Anyone-but-Romney wing prevails?

There is no way that Cain will get the vote. Not in the South.

The ultra-conservatives in the South that will only vote Republican will not vote for a black man. It just won’t happen.

I admit to being really curious who would get the vote between Cain and Romney though. Again, in the deep, conservative South, Mormonism is roughly akin to Satanism.

I can’t see the ultra-conservatives staying home, so the regional vote might well be for Newt. I don’t think that’s enough to carry him, but it might be enough to split the vote for Romney and allow Cain to get the GOP nod.

    It really is anyone’s game.

So what happens after they walk into a bar?

Given the proven talent of Democrats to self-sabotage, and the eagerness of the present incumbent to assist in his own undermining (at public and national expense)… well, go ahead and dream, but please don’t do anything that would actually contribute to such an outcome.

These guys wouldn’t be caught near a bar… they are Teh Troo Chrischianz.

Whorehouse, sure. Casino, sure. But never a bar…
