Ganesh Pyne died yesterday. He was one of my favourite artists. Some say his art was dark. Some say he was influenced by Rembrandt, Ingmar Bergman. I do not think his paintings are dark or he was influenced by other artists. I think nature, life, death, reality, imagination encouraged him to create. He painted what he saw, what he touched and what he felt. I could have met him when I was living in Kolkata. But I never feel the urge to meet great writers or artists whose work I love very much. And it never comes to my mind that they will die someday. As if they will live forever. It is true that they die. but their arts survive much longer. [Read more…]
