What a Feeling

Content Warning: Blood, Despair

I found this years ago; I don’t know who did the original or where it’s from, but it captures something.

Sure, I feel that way sometimes. Stupidity, assholery, self-selected ignorance, and inhumanity know no bounds. That said, it is easy to drift into such things if I don’t step back and judge things with a more impartial eye. It is easy to get wrapped up in one truth and one perspective and lose the thread.

I once knew a physics major. A very smart guy. He did a stint working on nuclear weapons. Specifically increasing yield using less material. He immersed himself and over two years optimized a small analytical routine in the modeling which means, to this day, all thermonuclear weapons are potentially .00003%, or some such, more efficient. It was a very smart bit of theoretical analysis. He got lots of beers and back slaps in that community.

The good news is that we can live, grow, adapt, learn and pass on what we learn to future generations. Humanity is a startlingly young species. Barely a few hundred thousand years. Written history is barely eight thousand years. (all figures well rounded)

Needless pain and suffering bothers me. Pigheadedness bothers me. The manufactured resistance to vaccination as a cynical way of denying Biden a win bothers me. A willingness to see, literal, hundreds of thousand dead and many times that blighted bothers me no end. I want to scream. I want to cry. I want to expose these charlatans for what they are and see a crowd of the duped and bereaved tear them apart.

But feeling that does no good.

Humanity will muddle through. Who knows, maybe humanity will learn something. A rare event, but it has happened.

    So it goes.
