… By buying a cheap-crap LED flashlight that was probably made in China!

Those URLs look super-legit, too. “scourge-cadaver”? and “amphatamines-Pusan”

But the National Gun Owners Association is releasing these in the next few days.

I am struggling to contain my sense of “holy shit, this might be the big opportunity!”

Um. NATIONAL GUN OWNERS ASSOCIATION. Why have I never heard of this?! Hey, I own a gun!!…

    WOW! That means it’s “Oriental”!

    right? :-0

My brain screeched to a halt on the ‘amphetamines-Pusan’ bit. Jesus, if ever urls screamed Do. Not. Click. But you know there are going to be plenty of idiots which do so.

The National Gun Owners Association is a legitimate group dedicated to turning the paranoia of others into a profit. No, hang on, I think I might be confusing them with the Rifle owners there.

Actually, this does raise a question: Is there a meaningful distinction between lying and scamming? (Other than method) The NRA lies to people to presumably cash in on members’ fees and donations. The NGA (TM) makes money by scamming people who mistake them for the NRA. Two wrongs don’t make a right but maybe this is more of an inversion than a turn resulting a somewhat strange moral topology. I just can’t decide who’s worse… unless we go by evil impact factor.

P.S.: Scourge-cadaver is a great URL. I’d be tempted to click on it just to find out what the hell could be on the other side of it, not least because it is apparently the unsubscribe link to that particular … newsletter? Website? Apocalypse cult?

Incidentally, cadaver scourging also sounds like it might be the traditional funeral rite of a religious group that fervently believes in redemption through suffering. Maybe that’s something to ask about it next time I happen to wander by a funeral home during business hours.

Flagellants. They just don’t wait until they are cadavers. Got right popular, so popular, the catholic church declared them heretics, and set about trying to wipe them out. They also dressed like the KKK centuries before that little cult was a gleam in a bigot’s eye.

    “What could possibly go wrong?”

Also note that the product is designed to have transatlantic appeal: it’s a “torch flashlight”.

Aww. You get all the good spam. I just get junk mail from Amazon telling me that they noticed I was looking at microscopes or something and thought I should look at something else.

J: “Alexa buy me a microscope”
A: “OK I just ordered you a copy of Microsoft Windows 10.”

    Caine:
Just the sort of people I was thinking of. At least some of them might feel compelled to continue the habits of a lifetime in death. It might still count towards martydom or tip the balance if St. Peter’s on the fence about admitting the departed into paradise. As a priest might put it, would you rather flog your deceased frend’s body in vain or risk their eternal damnation? Yes, there is a distincly christian flavour to all of this…
