I notice long-nose had the last word, and it is the dog that terminated the argument by not responding.

(Also, ‘rebuttal’ is the noun form, ‘rebut’ is the verb form.
The bad grammar makes long-nose seem a bit ignorant)

    John,

The guy in the cartoon is notoriously lazy and ignorant and his incorrect use of the words ‘buttal’ and ‘rebuttal’ is clearly deliberate by the cartoonist as part of the joke.

It is true that there are plenty of people out there who seem to believe that if they get the last word, that means they won the argument. Nothing you can do about that sort. Just make your point (if you feel like getting into it at all) and then move on.
