My take: The combination Hollywood-slasher person (knife, overalls, hockey mask) is complaining that there’s nothing in the apartment from which to appear unexpectedly. Breaking the fourth wall, both characters admit they are defeated by circumstance.

This looks like one of those jokes that exposes my lack of familiarity with the slasher film genre, at least as far as the guy in the orange winter longjohn underwear (?) goes. What about the ordinary guy coming through the door looking exhausted? Is he supposed to be a familiar figure?

Not as critical/deep as EigenSprocketUK’s interpretation, but I just read it as a commentary that the lives and living conditions of so many Americans are so bad, that even horror movie villains/monsters are horrified at the scenario…

the orange winter longjohn underwear (?)

They’re supposed to be coveralls, which a deranged killer in a slasher movie might wear. They’re also common for mechanics, plumbers, factory or farm workers, prisoners (especially in bright orange), and so forth.

My guess is a massively pessimistic one. About door guy is that he’s meant to be all of us, too fucking tired from trying to legitimately survive all the exploitation of the maliciously fascist capitalist lives we are forced to lead. He has so little energy left and survival outside of his apartment seems so likely given that he can’t afford basic furniture. He would ever so briefly entertain helping the serial killer do their job ‘properly’, and be sad that he doesn’t have that energy.
