Touche, AOC!

Ted Cruz, pandering as always to the nativist base of Trumpers in the hope that they will flock to him in a future presidential bid, thought he had come up with something clever.

Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez promptly put him in his place.

And Greta Thunberg piled on.

Incidentally, what is the deal with Cruz’s bearded look? As one wag said, it makes him look like a werewolf whose transition got halted halfway when the moon went behind a cloud.

Re: Ted’s beard. I think he may be preparing himself for a post-politics career as a DJ on an oldies radio station. (A long time ago, when I was a wee tad, there used to be a very famous syndicated DJ named Wolfman Jack in the U.S. -- the resemblance is uncanny…)

    Re: Greta Thunberg.
    Nail. Head. As usual.

That tweet is kind of puzzling on another level….
I guess he could try to go for Senator of Pittsburgh if he really wanted it — aim for the stars, Ted! — but unfortunately Texas only has a town named Pittsburg, which is not the same thing.

I suppose he could have meant Pittsburg, KS, Pittsburg, CA, or perhaps even Pittsboro, NC. I kind of doubt it was Pitts, GA, but who knows? He may also be just another Ivy League idiot. That is also possible.

But seriously … does he really think that kind of pandering shit could help him four years from now when he’s trying to run for president? I know some people do crazy things, but it’s still hard to imagine anyone actually caring that he once had a staffer write a dumb tweet that mentioned Pittsburgh.

    A couple of things:
    1. It’s supposed to be the “beard of authority”.
    2. As Mano noted, it’s pandering. He knows it’s silly, but he also knows it will work.

According to long-ago French classes, general reading, and my dictionary, one says “Touché(!)” only to acknowledge or salute a successful move by an opponent. I had not thought that our esteemed host considers AOC in that category.

However, we will certainly have a very long wait for Sen. Cruz to make such an admission, or to do any (other) right thing.

Pierce @6: Yeah, there is a preferable term. In Hamlet, the prince fences with Laertes. The ‘ref’, Osric, is asked for a judgement on a move by Hamlet, and Osric replies “A hit, a very palpable hit”.

I saw someone one the internets say Ted Cruz looks like what The Wolverine would if he had three flaccid penises coming out of his hands instead of claws.

We should give it to Teddie -- he got this part “This agreement will do little to affect the climate” right. The agreement should be far more radical.
