What a disgrace. And add this to the five years of disgraces since DT began campaigning.
Looking in from abroad, I was not surprised. This was less well staged than the “spontaneous” demonstration to stop the recount after Al Gore won the election in 2000 and got robbed by Bush, but it is the same rot. The crooks are just less competent.
Only 15 people arrested. Unbelievable. Imagine if this had been a BLM action.

This is sickening. Where were the baton-weilding cops, the rubber bullets, the overwhelming gas attacks against the attackers? It is clear that those in charge simply did not equate this clearly seditious activity with the peaceful protests that supposedly warranted those type of responses. I guess “white is right” and anyone opposed is fucked. The National Guard should have been posted on the Capitol steps to prevent what was an obvious attempt to overthrow the results of a fair and fraud-free election. Every one of those seditious fuckheads should be thrown in jail along with The Orange Toddler-Tyrant.

Two words do occur to me: emigration. Not that I can afford to.
Or, failing that, secession. I want California to be its own Republic, despite its many problems. Heck, the San Joaquin Valley can join Alabama if it wants.

That’s okay, the others have me sufficiently gobsmacked.

Meh, easy enough.
Those threatened politicians? Almost all filthy rich, doing their best to defend their privileges.
Joe Biden? A conservative who will try to make sure that nothing will change.
The American political system? Rotten and corrupt.
American pseudo-progressives? People who delude themselves that they are morally superior by defending a system that nowadays is not a democracy.
Like I wrote at PZ’s site, nothing to get worked up about.
If I’m wrong it will be because the American political system is able to repair itself and then this mob has done something good. But probably I will be right and these events won’t make any difference. What we witness is a superpower in decline clinging to an outdated and contraproductive political concept. This mob invading parliament is just a symptom.

When was that? Indian conquest? Prohibition? The McCarthy era? Gulf War?

In a working political system, things approach something we can call a “just” system asymptotically.
This mostly stopped happening in USA after the election of Ronald Reagan and the slippery slope of right-wing populism got used to enable deregulations, tax cuts, court stacking

Despite this, there has been some social improvements with more respect for the rights of women, gay people and ethnic minorities but these changes have been tolerated as they do not threaten the neoliberal agenda endorsed by both political parties and cemented by corporate media.
Some things have improved, but the economic situation för the have-nots has stagnated.
China is due to pass USA as the dominant economic power.
The political duopoly is clearly not up to the task of reversing the trend- not unless a crisis shakes up the system.
So, yes, the good thing about the Trump years is that it exposes the rot. Biden et al would prefer to make the tiniest changes possible but four years from now it will be obvious band aids do not work.
