Slut shaming a paramedic

A New York City paramedic was moonlighting as a nude model to earn some extra money and the New York Post, the Murdoch-owned rag that pretends to be a newspaper, upon discovering this, has made it out be some kind of scandal.

But as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rightly pointed out, the real scandal is that these emergency workers are paid so little that many of them are forced to take on second jobs.

The progressive New York congresswoman tweeted that instead of publishing a salacious article suggesting the woman isn’t adhering to “standards of personal ethics” while naming both her and her employer—reportedly against her wishes—the newspaper should have focused on “the actual scandalous headline…’Medics in the United States need two jobs to survive.'”

She graduated from an emergency medical technician program in 2018 and soon began earning $15 per hour in a city where a living wage is about $18 per hour, according to researchers at MIT.

Kwei completed more training to become a paramedic last year, at a school that charges $13,200 in tuition. She now earns $25 per hour, she told the Post, and is helping to support her family following her father’s recent cardiac arrest.

To avoid working more than 40 hours per week at a job with a high burnout rate, Kwei began an OnlyFans.com account, posting nude photos and videos on the website to earn enough money to support herself.

What is it with people getting so upset over nudity? Why is choosing to pose nude violating the “standards of personal ethics”? As long as she is a good paramedic, why does whatever legal work she does outside of work matter? The idea of anyone or anything associated with the Murdoch empire preaching about ethics is laughable.

    Her story is familiar.
Another young woman who made a living by taking her clothes off occasionally is…Melanie Knauss, the Slovenian model now known as Melanie Trump, First Lady of the USA. I somehow doubt the NY Post made a big deal out of that.

These days, with ubiquitous cameras and the internet, more and more people are just shrugging and saying “so what” at the startling discovery that human people have human bodies.

What is way inappropriate here, is the NY Post bullying a young EMS, just because they can for no real point whatsoever.
Fuck the NY Post and Rupert Murdoch (the owner).

Who cares and why? No one I know.

I’m many orders of magnitude more offended by fundie xians, the GOP, and Trump voters.
They are trying very hard to wreck the country while this young woman is holding down an important medical service job in the time of the pandemic with widespread illness and death,.

Say, didn’t trumpet have sex with a porn star and then pay for her silence? How did the Post cover that story?

The other ‘scandal’ is that while the Post was happy to completely deny her any anonymity, they were perfectly fine to keep the tipster that told them about this anonymous.

What would you like to bet that the tipster was some young man who worked with her and who got pissed off because this ‘girl’ was telling him what to do? (Because she actually knew what he was doing while he was showboating at the time…)

There’s also her Facebook response, which also includes a link to Emergency Medical Services Public Advocacy Council.

The Emergency Medical Services Public Advocacy Council (EMSPAC) is dedicated to advancing the welfare of the men and women serving as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Paramedics and EMS Officers. We engage in public awareness, political lobbying, and legislative action to achieve wage & benefit parity and justice for all EMS providers.
