Gay Republicans think Trump has been wonderful for the LGBTQ community

The Log Cabin Republicans, described as “the nation’s largest collective of LGBTQ conservatives”, has endorsed Donald Trump for 2020. The reasons it gives are risible.

The Log Cabin Republicans, the nation’s largest collective of LGBTQ conservatives, has officially endorsed the re-election of President Donald Trump — after its board of directors voted against endorsing him in 2016 — stating that Trump has advanced LGBTQ rights and helped the GOP move past “culture wars” during his tenure.

In a Washington Post Op-Ed published on Thursday evening, Robert Kabel, chairman of the group, and Jill Homan, its vice president, wrote that “for LGBTQ Republicans, watching the 2016 GOP convention before Donald Trump was like a dream fulfilled” and marked the beginning of Trump removing gay rights “as a wedge issue from the old Republican handbook” and “taking bold actions that benefit the LGBTQ community.”

‘Bold actions’ is right. But that his actions ‘benefit the LGBTQ community’? Not so much.

In addition to the president’s contentious transgender military policy, which bars transgender personnel from serving openly and denies them access to gender-affirming medical care, the Health and Human Services Department proposed a new rule in May suggesting that federal laws banning sex discrimination in health care don’t apply to patients’ “gender identity.”

United States citizenship has also been denied to some children of LGBTQ couples, and just this week, the Trump administration unveiled a proposed rule that would greatly expand the exemption that allows religious entities to ignore anti-discrimination laws by broadening the definition to include federal contractors that declare themselves to be religious — a rule that LGBTQ advocates have decried as a license to discriminate.

The willingness of these Republican groups to turn their backs on everything they professed to stand for and prostrate themselves before Trump is a marvel to behold.

    How deluded do you have to be to believe that the orange idiot has done anything to help LBGTQ people? I guess as deluded as anybody who supports him.

    The fact that there are gay people voting Republican has always puzzled me. Repeat for every demographic that is not straight, white, male and wealthy.

    @Holms
    More than a decade ago, I named Republican party as WORMS party. It stands for White Old Rich Male Straight. If lack even ONE of those characteristics, WORMS party is all about screwing you. Think about it: Republicans hate non-white people. They actively work against young. They screw poor over repeatedly in favor of rich and their anti-women and anti-straight agenda needs no introduction.

    The acquisition, growth and protection of wealth supersedes all other considerations because wealth protects you from all inconveniences.

    Under Trump, immigrants and POC have taken some of the heat off gay people as boogeymen, so it probably makes the cognitive dissonance of being republican a bit easier to manage.

    White gay males are as repulsive, bigoted and racist as white second wave feminists.

    White second wave feminists told Women of Colour, “We’ll work on racism later! Unify now!” and then stabbed Women of Colour in the back once white women got what they wanted. White gay males told Trans, Bi, Asexual and other LBTQIA people, “We’ll work on your rights later! Unify now!” and similarly stabbed everyone else in the back.

    Atheism had its own similar problem, high profile voices who turned out be just as vile and bigoted. No movement is immune to this.

    In the conservative world, being non-white is worse than being gay. I heard a gay man (married to a man) tell an anti-Hispanic joke at a Christmas party. He knew I was a liberal and told it anyway. Liberals fought for his right to get married, and people with his own world view fought against it. Of course, it helps him to be accepted in the conservative world by showing his racist credentials.

    “stating that Trump has advanced LGBTQ rights”
    Two of the first things he did as president were signing executive orders banning trans people from the military and stripping protections for LGBT federal employees. Are the Log Cabin Republicans liars or just idiots?
