Samantha Bee gives some advice to the low-polling Democratic candidates

I think that much of this concern over so many candidates at this stage is misplaced. This is the time for multiple candidates and views to be aired. As time goes by, the field will be winnowed and those who lose out will seek other positions, such as the senate seats she is urging. Running for president gives them the national attention that politicians tend to enjoy.

What we should hope for is that the field is winnowed by policies and the preferences of voters, not by the pundits and party establishments

This election cycle gives me empathy towards sports fans. I get to experience the feeling of getting absorbed into minute details of the ups and downs of a race.

Perez is trying to come up with rules that will not come across as overly preferring ‘insiders’. However the requirement to get 130,000 unique donors for participating in the 3rd debate (in September) is already causing some chaos. There are now companies that charge candidates for locating more additional donors, and the amount they charge is more than the typical donation. So I do expect over a third of the field to not be included past the second debate. (Of course they might seek other ways to maintain visibility.)

They want the big job so they can play golf all day.

Seriously, I’m just going to sit back and see what happens. It’s going to be interesting to see how they derail Warren. She’s got so much less baggage than Biden they’re going to have to pull some mighty hinky shit to give Joe his turn.

A friend of mine has been trying to make the same point, that there are too many Democrat candidates and that will cause Trump to win. I point out that the same was true of the Republicans last presidential election, and the Republicans ended up winning (unfortunately). So at this point I am not worried. What will be worrisome is if the campaigns get nasty toward each other and give Trump fodder for his campaign.

Personally, I think it is a good idea for the Democrats to explore a plethora of ideas and find out what Americans are in favor of.
