The blue wave keeps getting bigger and bigger

As yet another sign of the blue wave, it looks likely that Orange County in California, long a stronghold of the Republican party, will not be left with even a single Republican congressperson. The latest result called has Democrat Katie Walters Porter defeating Republican incumbent Mimi Walters by running on an unabashedly progressive platform. In the last remaining uncalled Orange County race in the 39th District, Democrat Gil Cisneros has taken the lead over Republican Young Kim and seems likely to eventually win.

Porter ran on progressive policies in a seat where many advised against it. While some other Orange County Democratic House candidates tempered their vision of “Medicare for all” following the June primary and presented themselves as more centrist, Porter propelled herself by insisting that a single-payer model was the best path to universal and affordable health care.

Porter also argued that Walters’ votes for the GOP tax bill and opposition to Obamacare threatened to harm middle-class voters in a seat where pocketbook issues are key. While Walters insisted that locals would see savings from the tax bill, many in the district – including Republicans – said they feared that new caps on mortgage interest write-offs and state-and-local tax deductions would cause them to pay more.

Throughout Walters’ re-election bid, the congresswoman and national Republicans repeatedly framed Porter as a “radical” liberal who was “too far left” for the affluent district. Turned out that voters didn’t agree.

Porter and Democratic activists also sought to inextricably link Walters to President Donald Trump, who polls show is unpopular in the seat. In 2016, when Walters won re-election by 17 percentage points, Trump lost her district by 5 points.

Seth Meyers says that Donald Trump is freaking out as it slowly, slowly sinks in that the election was a major repudiation of him, and because the results of the takeover by Democrats of the House of Representatives mean that he and the Republican party are going to have a tough two years ahead.

I am not a psychologist but I wonder what happens to a narcissist when their delusions can no longer be sustained even by them?

You meant to write Katie Porter here.
But if this had been Florida and the race was Walters vs. Walters, they may never stop the recount. (They’d certainly have one.)

Since he spends so much time in FL, I think he a) vaguely remembered hearing the name “Tamiami Trail” and Tallahassee was all he could conjure because it’s more familiar, and b) he’s never heard of the Appalachian Trail.

Btw, it should be Katie Porter in the first paragraph.

What happened when asked what he would do if he lost the election? Obviously the election was rigged, and he wouldn’t concede.

What happened when he actually did lose the popular vote? Obviously, massive voter fraud occurred! Investigate! Lock them up!

So I’m betting that more than a few fringe Republicans and other alt-right will claim massive voter fraud, yet again, and the Narcissist-in-Chief will glom right on to that. It must of course have been someone cheating, if it in any way goes against him.
