grasshopper, I didn’t think that Mr Pastis could ever be beaten when it comes to lowering the bar on bad puns.

  4. grasshopper says

I am just a poor boy
    Though my story’s seldom told
    I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles, such are promises
    All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
    And disregards the rest

My propensity for puns was sort of developed as a youngster through fear of getting things wrong (and being punnished) for not listening properly. Those two lines emphasised say it succinctly. Unless I misheard those lyrics by Simondegreen and Garfunkel
