Ted Cruz’s porn problem

For something light, we turn to the embarrassment that Ted Cruz is currently suffering for having ‘liked’ on social media a porn video. In subsequent interviews, he has placed the blame on a mistake by an unidentified low-level staffer, the usual scapegoats when prominent people suffer any embarrassment.

Jimmy Kimmel has fun at Cruz’s expense.

This is the problem when your whole persona is so closely identified with religious prudery.

Meanwhile, the website Pornhub has released a data dump of statistics for the past 10 years about who watches what kinds of porn. Anna Pulley analyzes the results.

The most surprising takeaway from all of the reams of data (aside from the video game Overwatch finagling its way into the porn canon, jumping 452 spots in 2016!) is how lesbian porn has dominated the site for three years running, and is the most popular category of all time. Following behind girl-girl action are MILF, amateur and teen. From 2007 to 2010, amateur was the most popular category. It was replaced briefly by teen in 2011, then MILF from 2012-2014. But from 2015 on, the lesbians have been unstoppable.

So how was he getting porn on his official twitter account? Was his unnamed staffer following porn actresses or something?
I don’t just get random porn fed to my twitter account. Interesting thing about internet porn is it usually doesn’t come hunt you out -- you hunt it out. Then, yes, it follows you home.

The reason that lesbian porn is so popular (or at least, the reason my significant other and I believe it is) is because men in porn are fucking terrible. If straight porn didn’t regularly feature the living embodiment of a soiled beer pong table soaking in a vat of steroids, I’m sure it would be much more popular.

Lesbian porn is often quite terrible too. So much of it features two obviously straight women who have no idea of how to give each other pleasure. Then halfway through that same man comes in and it’s all about him again.

There is another, more ordinary reason: people that want to see women and only women will happily replace the male that they don’t really want to see with another woman. Two objects of interest > one object of interest.
