The Republicans negotiating strategy – act like toddlers

Seth Myers points out yet another example of what is well known. There is absolutely nothing that president Obama can do, short of eliminating all government regulations and all taxes for those earning over $250,000, that will not be childishly criticized by the Republicans.

It’s a negotiating ‘strategy’ based on something like the overton window: you plant your foot and refuse to budge, then hope you counterpart/opponent gives up more than they normally would, out of desperation to make some kind of a deal. I think they teach that trick in ‘pick up artist’ classes and those negotiating seminars that you see advertised in USair and United seat-back-in-front-of-you magazines.

It is effective in the sense that you don’t get a deal you’re not happy with.
