Light blogging

I am in bed with the flu and so blogging may be light or non-existent for the next couple of days except for monitoring the comments.

On the bright side, it gives me a good excuse for not going outside in what is expected to be a bitterly cold week.

To paraphrase a recently-controversial license plate, FLU SUX.

Take care of yourself and feel better soon, Mano.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Take care of yourself. We will still be here when you’re well enough to blog again.

As the flu is the national disease in The Netherlands I know what you’re going through. My advise: drink a lot.

I advocate a rigorous schedule of hard core sleep, 16 or more hours a day if possible, and mix in a few light naps. Push fluids every chance you get. I find a long hot shower to be just the thing to loosen everything up and relax me for some serious sleep. Steam is good for you. Sauna if you have access but avoid to much heat.

I do actually follow the regimen you recommend, of sleeping as much as possible. I also pretty much only drink ‘orangeade’, which is a mixture of 50% orange juice and 50% water with extra sugar added to make it sweet.

    mbn0,

When you say ‘drink a lot’, I hope you don’t mean alcohol!

I had the non-alcoholic beverage of your choice in mind. That said, given my drinking past, I can’t condemn anyone who wishes to add a moderate amount of antifreeze to his/her hydration plan but I honestly think most people would get along at least as well without it.

I mostly drink water and coffee but I suspect that tea, caffeinated or herbal, is better for hydration while fighting off a virus. Hot tea is warming, comforting and unlikely to interfere with digestion.

A week ago I lost three, or was it five, days sleeping. Moving only to maintain an absolute minimum standard of nutrition, sanitation and hygiene. A virtuous and healthy application of sloth.
