The ‘parenthetical’ Colbert segment made me laugh out loud. Seriously, has this Cohen guy been fired yet?
The irony (read: hypocrisy) of Palin’s words is that she’s a defender and enabler of the economic slavery and indenture she claims to be against. She’s a profiteer of the corrupt political and economic system that puts people in perpetual debt.
And as for Cohen…ugh, I can’t say anything civil. I’ll stick to calling him incohrent.
There are definitely legitimate points to be made about the role of debt in maintaining the current system of wage slavery. Shockingly, Sarah Palin manages to make exactly none of them.
I have recently had a falling-out with one of my friends. It turns out, he’s the character that Jason Jones was playing, only he was being serious. The guy just did not understand the concept of privilege, and took so much offense at the suggestion that he misunderstood racism that he immediately broke off all contact with me.
Privilege is a very difficult concept to understand for those who have it. He’s a very smart guy otherwise. I’ve struggled with the concept myself, too, although I made a conscious effort to learn it. I think that Daily Show clip did an excellent job of depicting this dynamic.
“Sarah Palin--” “RACIST!” That was funny because it’s true.
