The Thinking Housewife on the election

You may recall that I had some posts in the past about The Thinking Housewife, that curious website of deep nostalgia for Christian patriarchy, when a woman stayed at home looking after her children and the needs of her husband, and colored people knew their place, which was the kitchen and the garden.

I went over there to see what they thought of the election and was not surprised to see the mood was somber. Here are some quotes from the various contributors to the site, lamenting the fact that minorities and single women voted for Obama. What could explain their bizarre behavior?

Black resistance to homosexual “marriage,” which Obama supports, is non-existent in these places. Blacks don’t think when they vote. They follow. There are few black rebels and many, if not most, blacks have probably never met someone who dissented from the prevailing view. Ideologically, they are the most conformist people on earth.

Few single women look for a man to support them; why should they when the Ultimate Alpha Male (the trillionaire federal gov’t) now promises Julia and the sisterhood to cover all their expenses?

Even women who are not dependent on the state for various forms of welfare are emotionally and financially married to big government because it provides them with a comprehensive system of feminist guarantees that give them security and moral purpose.

In short: These dumb single women and black people voted for Obama without thinking, and now the rest will have to pay the price.

But what took the cake for me was the post about Tammy Duckworth, who won her seat to the House of Representatives in Illinois, defeating the truly awful incumbent nutcase Joe Walsh. Duckworth is a double amputee veteran, losing both her legs as result of combat in Iraq but her victory is described as s a “relatively comprehensive symbol of the sickness of the present age.”

When I visit that site, I feel like I have passed through a time warp and entered Jane Austen’s world of frilly petticoats, starched collars, and people drinking tea out of dainty cups with their pinkie fingers outstretched, as seen in this clip from That Mitchell and Webb Look.

Truly strange.

I hadn’t been there before, but your description of the site is very apt. The writer appears to have been heavily influenced by the 19th century in many ways, including diction. Thanks for the link. And the video. Heh.

Fascinating. I’m a liberal feminist atheist full-time-traditional housewife. I’d probably make their heads explode.

They also complain that Duckworth didn’t take her husband’s name. Oh the horror. They probably think she should go by Mrs. Bryan Bowlsbey

I can certainly see why Mr. Darcy was free-style disco champion of all Derbyshire for the past dozen years.

Do you not see this mad lib template of argument everyday at liberal, atheist and freethought sites?

In short: These __pejorative__ people __verb__ for __noun__ without thinking, and now we __complimentary__ people will have to pay the price

These people are probably no stupider than anyone else on the net.

Watch out for that template, and realize the people instantiating it are most likely victims of their own Dunning Kruger experiment.

    I just did it myself!

That was an interesting comment from women who look for the Ultimate Alpha Male (God) to solve all their problems for them.

So, the Thinking Housewife, who is a helpless dependent of her husband who pays for her every need and want, is crying about her imagined single women who look to someone else for their every need and want? I suspect some heavy projection is going on.

What are they saying here? That because a black person in position of leadership supports marriage equality (well, sort of) black voters who would have otherwise objected voted in support of marriage equality, whereas white voters voted in support for marriage equality because they thought about it and decided it was a good idea? And considering the racial composition of the states that recently passed marriage-equality amendments, even if we accept the racist premise of these housewives (not that I think we should), it looks like marriage-equality passed predominantly because people think it’s a good idea.

Interesting that they don’t say how this might be.

I don’t get the tax breaks that people with children get. I don’t favor having a large military for “security”. I’ve paid for my own birth control, which is their other favorite whipping horse. And even if I didn’t I’d favor paying for it for poor women because it’s cheaper and helps both women and men avoid the cycle of poverty.

I favor more spending on education so those a**holes’ children can get better educations. I favor single payer health so other people can get it. As of now I have health insurance, but even when I didn’t I had to pay for it just like everyone else. It’s not like they just give Medicaid or SSI to anyone who wants it.

This isn’t about security for me, it’s about security, well-being, and good educations for all of us, including me. When I live in a society where people are largely well educated and healthy we all do better, including me.

Wtf is so hard to understand about that?

Well, really, Mr Singham! I was sipping tea and perusing genteel websites when my eye fell upon your blog quite by chance. I am shocked and appalled by the indecent filth you write at this lair of moral decay. For a learned Professor and a gentleman of Oriental extraction, you are remarkably uncouth! I was so upset that my coloured maidservant Henrietta, a West Indian girl who speaks English remarkably well for a darkie, had to fetch me a hot water bottle and a pack of Werther’s Originals.

It is all very well for you to scoff at Traditional Christian Values. I hope you realise that if we had not taught your people how to be civilised, you would at this very moment be drinking monkey’s blood and dancing half-naked before a stone idol with sixteen arms. Is this how you show your gratitude? By scorning and maligning the servants of our Lord the Dear Sweet Baby Jesus? Shame on you, sir.

I shall be writing to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and demanding that you be returned to your country immediately.

    Yours, &c.

If ever a website were misnamed ‘Thinking Housewife’ is it. Nothing there can be described as the result of ‘thought’, whatever Miss Wood might imagine. I brought the site to the attention of Summer-the-little-stripey-cat, whose mental processes especially in matters of interest to cats are crystal clear. She was not impressed and advises Miss Wood not to worry her pretty little head about politics but simply leave it to the men, who are amply equipped to deal with such (distasteful) affairs.

Forgive me, Lady Hortensia. I had momentarily forgotten my place. It will not happen again, I assure you.

Considering they were both majors … it would have been really confusing.

The general feel of that blog is so “genteel” in a bad way, as if they are wearing white gloves, carrying parasols and visiting an East End Dickensian slum.

I am constantly amazed at the things people occasionally say. It makes me realize what a cesspit their thoughts must be.

“Blacks don’t think when they vote.”
LOL! Yeah, people only think for themselves when they vote Republican. Voting Republican is by definition non-conformist, especially in areas where the vast majority does so.

    Holy Moses…

    This from the TH website:

“He argues that Romney’s exclusive focus on jobs, his failure to fight aggressively on many other issues and his overall mushiness were decisive.”

I’m starting to feel bad for Mr. Romney. It’s one thing to lose; it’s another thing entirely to have your people turn on you with such vitriol.
