Talking about Rand, the second part of film trilogy based on Rand’s book Atlas Shrugged, which was released on October 12 and was hoped to help sway the election in Rand-fan Paul Ryan’s favor, seems to have bombed at the box office even more than the first part. It did not help that critics savaged the sequel as being worse than the first, for which their estimation was already low.
The first I’d heard about its numbers was that it had pulled in roughly the same opening weekend take as the first, over three times as many screens. Per-screen is a pretty important number, and that was NOT a good sign.

Atlas is the most pathetic greek deity to worship. Th If you are going to go for a titan, pick Prometheus. He kicks ass and takes names.
The movie appeals to Randroids and nobody else.
Have to say that the Obama defense at the end of the video is somewhat pathetic.
Obama has more than “not fulfilled all of his promises”. His policy prescriptions are basically conservative on all but a few social hot button issues.
He, like Bubba who Democratic Party faithful still seem to love despite the corruption and terrible policies, is a right wing Republican. Of course, the sad thing is the republican Party is now batshit insane, but still…
The “shrugging” is of the productive and creative people of the world, who decide to go live in the mountains and let the parasites of the world try to survive without their efforts.
The first two parts is about Dagny Taggart’s effort to run a railroad while fighting off all the weenies who want to drag down her effort. At least I get that impression.
The films are reportedly very low-budget — as far as I can tell, they didn’t even bother to try to pinch some footage of Western European or Eastern Asian bullet trains.
Apparently they spent about $20 million for #1, and about another $20 million for #2.
…and what they got for it could also be described as ‘#1’ and ‘#2’ with another meaning. 😉
Twenty or thirty years ago Obama would have been described as a moderate “Rockefeller” Republican. That was before the Religious Right hijacked the Republican party.

Of course Obama’s policies are conservatives. The Democrats are a center-right party after all. They are in now way truly “left”. They aren’t even social democrats.
