How can we miss you if you won’t go away?

Herman Cain is still around, unfortunately, putting out weird ads in the service of, what exactly is not clear. You never know with Cain, a truly original thinker. After all, who else would think that an obnoxious child killing a pet fish in some kind of post-nuclear landscape would be a winner?

  1. 'Tis Himself, OM says

Despite having been chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Cain’s background is in accounting rather than economics. His infamous 9-9-9 tax plan (replacing all federal taxes with a 9% business transactions tax, a 9% personal income tax, and a 9% federal sales tax) is regressive, transferring much of the current tax burden from the rich to the poor. Despite what Cain suggests, I believe his tax would increase the budget deficit without doing anything to stimulate demand. In an October 17, 2011 article The Economist criticized the 9–9–9 Plan saying that the Cain plan is not a reduction in the current corporate tax, but instead a new value added tax (VAT). The article also stated that Cain’s final tax would be a 30% VAT, as compared to the 15% European Union VAT.

There’s the further point that the 9-9-9 tax would lower Cain’s personal tax burden dramatically. He never seems to mention this.

What a terrible attempt at an analogy. Is he trying to say the economy is already dead (killed by obnoxious immature people), and it’s too late to revive it?

I have a question. Where’s the woman with the frying pan?

Plagiarism these days. In my day we at least pretended we weren’t completely ripping off a famous ad campaign.

I could understand “This is” and “Any questions” but the lisp and the American accent made the rest of it blah blah blah to my ears.

This is just a single clip from a crazy art film that goes better with mind-altering drugs, right?

I am qualified to actually speak on Cain because I haven’t paid much attention to him at all. I just wanted to say I have tried to explain repeatedly how regressive taxes shift the burden and how fucking horrible they can be. Apparently the concept is alien to most people. Perhaps that is why I always see more opposition to income takes in states than to sales tax in states.

I am just glad to see more people discuss regressive taxes, so I guess I am saying thank you.

The little girl first says, This is the economy. Then, the second time she says, This is the economy on stimulus.

Am I supposed to be mad at the stimulus which saved a big chunk of the American auto industry or Cain for killing a fish and making a kid look stupid?

And … the SOS website looks like it was built by a 9-year-old. The main point of the website appears to be to collect donations. I wonder how much Mr. Cain is going to bring in?

  10. Mano Singham says

The site was probably designed by a 9-year old as part of Cain’s grand 9-9-9 plan.
