Convicted Scientific Fraudster Bryan William Doreian Is Running A USPTO Patent Bar Review Course

The Office of Research Integrity just released a notice that Bryan William Doreian has admitted to research misconduct that involved falsifying data. Some of the particular acts that he admitted to included the following:

falsifying the numeric values to fit the hypothesis of the manuscript

multiplying the experimental values by 100 to match the magnitude of the values presented in Figures 21, 6h, and 6i of the Nature Medicine manuscript

claiming that the results represent the rmean of three identical experiments when the three experiments were normalized differently to yield the desired result

This cheatfucke is apparently Founder, President, and Managing Director of his own United States Patent and Trademark Office patent bar exam review course. I wonder if he gets someone else to teach the sections on the USPTO Code of Professional Responsibility for patent practitioners? Like the section that states:

(b) A practitioner shall not:

(4) Engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.

  1. Beaker says

Sounds like a savvy career move. He gets out of a career where the evidence supports his hypothesis and starts a new career as a lawyer–where conclusions can be supported ad hoc by selection or fabrication of the evidence.

  2. says

In patent practice before the USPTO, every practitioner owes a duty of disclosure, and is required to come wholly clean to the patent examiner regarding relevant prior art and other information. Failure to do so constitutes grounds for voiding any patents that issue.

  3. F [nucular nyandrothol] says

The patent system is so screwed already, I doubt Cheatfucke will have any impact on it. Not that he should benefit in areas in which he is clearly deficient.

  4. amy kelley says

At least a quick google search turns up the interesting factoid that Case Western is suing this little wiener for something.

If Universities had been imposing real sanctions all along maybe so much federal funding wouldn’t have been cut. These kinds of guys make all of our research suspect. Personally, I work 20 hours days often. What was he doing instead of real work? Apparently, he didn’t even do a good job of hiding his lies.
