Really not a bad puppet for the 60’s. And it was an alien spider-thing. Doesn’t necessarily have to have a Terran analog.

Why did the 60s think that wide collars would be the hot fashion in the future? June Lockhart (who will be 100 this June!) looks like she could step onto the Enterprise and no one would notice she wasn’t a crew member.

The face of that thing looks more like an owl, or even a moth, not a spider. It is scary, cheesy, but scary.

Personally, I think that this tail attack by Godzilla makes that alien spider look like high class art by comparison. https://youtu.be/JuEa6Hum0b4

Well, that was a TV show, so the budget was less than even the3 cheapest movie. And Michael Rennie starred in the of the best sci-fi movies ever.
Dear PZ, thanks for that silly break from the insanity in which we are immersed. The ‘alien’ looked like Michael Rennie, we really enjoyed him in ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’. Lost in Space was always cheesy, what a ‘campy’ role for him.

you could raise an army of these in your lab and conquer the state of minnesota. you’ll need that cool belt and rod combo though. talk to the engineering department.

If you like big arachnids check out the film where a very young Clint Eastwood in a jet bomber is attacking a giant scorpion.

I dunno, I kinda enjoyed watching a horny, giant alien monster humping an SUV.
Irwin Allen never understood Science Fiction, and despite all the so-called SciFi he put on screens I don’t think he ever respected it, either.

This looks like the same spider puppet that also appeared on Gilligan’s Island.
