Before my wife met me, she had a child with another person. That child was too big for her birth canal, but they tried to deliver him anyways. They waited too long and had pulled too hard on his head as part of a “natural birth” before they opted for a c-section. It killed him.
If this would have happened before c-sections were a viable option, my wife would have died too.
Fuck these people and their death cult.

These people literally have no idea how dangerous childbirth is and how it can kill someone. They honestly think it’s sunshine, rainbows, and unicorn farts.
My daughter had to have an emergency caesarean when my first grandchild was born. She and the baby would have both died if not for that c section. He is now a junior in high school pulling straight A’s in mostly honors and AP courses. My daughter went on to have two more healthy, happy and intelligent girls and was a stay at home mom for all of them.
The person who wrote that tweet and her ilk can go fuck themselves with a rusty speculum.

This is so unbelievable that my first thought was a Poe. There’s no way to tell if it’s expressing a legitimate point of view of some regressive religious zealots or a parody of it. If this has anything to do with “Stay at Home Mamas” FB page, then I suspect it’s a parody.

I find I’m shocked and puzzled by that one. Shocked because that’s a new target of venomous hatred for me and the first time is always a nasty surprise. And puzzled how that could even make sense in a bizarro world context. I suppose it’s classic ableist BS? Sounds a lot like the religious thing of blaming health issues on the petty whims of some figment punishing the victim for imaginary failures and shortcomings.

My voting location is the school across the street, looks like they’ve been pretty steady so far. As soon as I’m done with the dog, I’m heading over to do my civic duty/pleasure. The only race I’m undecided about is for our county commissioner. I know both candidates personally, and either would be a good choice. The rest of the ballot is easy-peasy (ez-PZ?)
I’ve always said that you can’t attack trans people without defending a rigid binary, and you can’t defend a rigid binary without attacking a LOT of people.
I didn’t personally foresee the attack on moms who give birth through c-section, but rigid binaries are weird, and, in the natural world, false, so this is exactly the kind of unexpected bullshit that we should expect from the anti-trans crusaders.
Over the years I’ve seen a lot of stupid woo infest the process of pregnancy: Lamaze, water birthing, eating placenta, playing classical music during gestation will produce genius, etc.. It’s only a matter of time when the moon-gazing, Earth-goddess loons will tell us that women dying in childbirth is completely natural and it was affront to womanhood to try to do anything about it to being with.

MOTHER is far more than giving birth and giving birth is a a prerequisite for being a mother.

I think exclusionary definitions are necessary to the authoritarian mindset. They have to split the world into “real” people (themselves) who therefore have the natural authority to talk on people-matters, and “not-real” people who have to take orders. But every authoritarian dreams of being the prime authoritarian, so the definitions have to get narrower and narrower until only one person is left as being real enough to be in charge of everyone.
As we all know, satire and sarcasm died a while ago. C-section was not an option.

15 years ago (in Australia, but I’m sure it happened elsewhere too) my friend encountered this sort of judgemental attitude after having an emergency cesarean. Not quite ‘you aren’t a mother’ but definitely ‘you didn’t really give birth’ – and by extension you aren’t quite a real mother. It’s weirdly pervasive. And it’s often other women.
My 5’4″ mother gave natural birth 3 times before trying to pass my 10lb baby body. I got C-sectioned out of her. Does that revoke her Mom status?

I think a lot of them DO know how dangerous and harrowing it was for them, and don’t want anyone else getting off easier than they did.

This meme is not just shitty, but also kinda dangerous. I dread anyone else being in the same situation I was seeing this. (Had emergency c-section at 30wks 1d, felt so hard like I’d already failed as a parent because I couldn’t carry my baby to term, and the whole ordeal was pretty terrifying tbh.) This shite is why I avoid other parents like the plague -_-

There was the “you’re not a mother if you don’t breast feed your kid” crowd a while back. I don’t know if they’re still around or not. I remember one of them was working as a child feeding consultant at the local hospital when they were kicked out for guilt tripping the women who couldn’t breast feed.
Somehow being a mother involves feeling guilty about not living up to an impossible standard.

@8 Maybe “there’s no such thing as a Poe” is shorthand for some thing I’m not aware of? If not … why isn’t it obviously wrong? (I bet that either it isn’t obviously wrong or else “no such thing as a Poe” means something more specific, but I don’t see what I’m missing.) “Poe’s Law” says that there’s no such thing as a parody too extreme to be taken for real, and “a Poe” would be a parody that has in fact been mistaken for something real despite being extreme. And obviously those exist.
